Basque Cheese and So Much More! - We very much enjoyed our tour of the small family cheese farm and San Sebastian. We were fortunate to have a private tour due to the off season visit and we found Irene to be easy going answering our many questions from Healthcare to education. She was passionate about food wine and all things Basque. The tour was well paced and we learned and saw so much in our time together. She also gave us several tips for our future travels to the Rioja wineries, which were much appreciated. Good value and highly recommend. Thanks Irene, until we meet again!

Such a wonderful experience - I have always wanted to explore northern Spain. My husband decided to treat me to a gourmet weekend for my birthday. We met the lovely Irene in Viura, where she collected us for our rioja wine tasting journey. Along the way, Irene explained many interesting things about the Spanish wine industry and it's history. We drove through some of the most beautiful landscapes in la Rioja. Her choice of bodegas to visit were perfect. We especially, loved visiting the Valserrano bodega and enjoyed all the lovely wines. We were then taken to the beautiful medieval village of Laguardia. We explored it in depth. Irene entertained us with her knowleddge of the history of this village. Many interesting details. We toured the 500 year old bodega of Carlos San Pedro Pérez de Viñaspre. Again, wonderful wine tasting and details not to be missed. We enjoyed a delicious 4 course meal at the cozy, but lovely Amelibia restaurant in the same village. Had a lovely birthday dessert trio. We had to save room, as Irene had kindly made reservations for us at the 3 star Michelin restaurant Martin Berasategui. I highly recommend booking in advance. Irene also booked our last hotel La Maria Cristina in San Sebastián, a 5 star property. We were delighted to have been upgraded to a beautiful suite with an amazing view. Our last day, we toured San Sebastián in the morning then headed to the enchanting fishing village of Hondarribia. What a pleasurable discovery. We never would have found it on our own. Thoroughly enjoyed learning the history here, too. In fact, that is true of all the places we visited on this trip. We concluded our visit with an obligatory pintxo crawl. This was the icing on the cake. We avoided the usual packed tourist spots and were rewarded with some of the best tasting pintxos. We finished with the famous, tarta de queso. Delicious. We're definitely returning and spending much more time to explore northern Spain. I am being honest when I say, we feel we found a friend in Irene. What a beautiful person. Very passionate about the history and culture of the Basque country. She is a gem and an indispensable guide to this region. Until our next time and there will definitely be one. Much love, David and Elaine
