Setting Sail into Serenity

The sun was just beginning to rise as I boarded the ship Sveti Ante in Biograd na Moru, ready to embark on a full-day adventure through the Kornati National Park. As a marine biologist, the allure of the ocean is something I can never resist, and this trip promised a blend of serene beauty and exhilarating exploration. The gentle hum of the boat’s engine was a soothing backdrop as we set sail, leaving the bustling port behind.

Our first sight was the fish farm Košara, a fascinating glimpse into the local aquaculture. The small island of Košara, southwest of Pašman, is home to Cromaris’s largest farm. The sight of the fish gliding through the water was mesmerizing, a reminder of the delicate balance of marine life that I have dedicated my career to studying. The crew on board was incredibly welcoming, offering a warm drink to start the day, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable journey.

Discovering the Kornati Islands

As we approached the Kornati Islands National Park, the landscape transformed into a breathtaking tapestry of jagged cliffs and rocky meadows. The island of Levrnaka was our first stop, where the crystal-clear waters of Lojena beach beckoned. I couldn’t resist diving in, the cool water a refreshing contrast to the warm sun. For those who preferred to stay dry, a hike to Veli vrh offered panoramic views of the surrounding islands, a sight that seemed to stretch on forever.

Lunch was served on the boat, a delicious spread of grilled fish and meat accompanied by Croatian wine. As we dined, the conversation flowed easily among fellow travelers, each of us sharing stories of our adventures and marveling at the beauty around us. The crew’s hospitality was unmatched, ensuring everyone felt at home on the water.

A Tranquil Return

Our final stop was the island of Vrgada, a small island with a population of around 200. The beach Podbrizi was a hidden gem, its untouched beauty a perfect spot for a leisurely swim. As I floated in the gentle waves, I reflected on the day’s experiences, grateful for the opportunity to explore such a pristine part of the world.

As the sun began to set, we made our way back to Biograd na Moru, the sky painted in hues of orange and pink. The day had been a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, a reminder of why I am so passionate about the ocean and its wonders.
