Highlights
  • Blagaj tekija - This region characterizes the diversity of its above-ground and underground waters. The source of the Buna is one of the largest and most beautiful in Europe.\n\nIt is the finest example of an underground karst river. It flows out of a 200m cliff wall and single-handedly creates the Buna River. Unsurprisingly, the Ottoman sultan was impressed, and ordered a tekija to be built right next to it. This 16th century house/monastery was built for the Dervish cults and is still one of the most mystical places in all of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is open to visitors all year round and serves cold drinks, tea and Turkish coffee in a beautiful garden overlooking the source of the River.

Visited Kravica (waterfalls), Roman ruins and 15th century town…and more - Sasa from NowBosnia gave us a splendid tour of the “oasis” Kravica (waterfalls) at a good time of the day for them to be enjoyed. We also saw an early church funded by the Sultan many centuries ago that until recently was operating a massive vineyard, Roman ruins in Caplinja and the 15th century town of Pocitelj built into a hillside with the most splendid view of the Neretva River valley. Also the natural wildlife refuge of Park Prirode Hutova Blato. These little known gems of Herzegovina were worth going with Sasa to get a feel for the cultural history of this region…as well as experiencing Mostar with him on another day.

Fruitful experience filled with joy and laughter - Mr Sasa is polite, knowledgeable and funny. It was a hot season so me and my companion got upgraded to a private tour. Various hot spots and secret tips were given. We had a great time discovering another side of Bosnia. Couldn't be more grateful to have this experience. Blessings from Hong Kong! :-)

Fantastic tour. Safari of B&H! - Really good tour with lunch provided. Panorama view of Mostar followed by a tour of 3 major spots in a windowless (convertible!) bus. Almost like being on safari!

A Perfect 10 for the Excellent Day Tour - I could express only my great amazement and gratitude for the worthy day-trip led by a very qualified tour guide named Sasa. Sasa is highly knowledgeable with his craft and even provided a lot of wisdom regarding Bosnian history and culture during the entire trip. We were picked up by Sasa on time with a welcome drink (bottled) water and a croissant. The morning was great as it was cloudy, hence, we expected to have a cooler trip vs. the very hot weather condition during our previous days tour. It drizzled during the early part of our trip. The 8- to 9-hour trip was perfect in terms of the number of tourist sites we have covered. First stop was Blagaj Tekija in a small Blagaj Village. Lots of pictures taken before 16th century monastery by the Ottoman Empire Sultan. Great view for poses. Impressively, the water gushing from the underground Karst River is chilly cold and we drank straight from the source. Wow!!! After which, we savored the famous Bosnian coffee at a nearby restaurant before heading out to our next hop. From there, Sasa gave us a complimentary stop-over / private viewing of a house-cum museum owned by our 70-year old tour driver. What is inspiring is that this property was personally constructed by the owner himself using local-sourced rocks and materials and that they were well laid out. Construction of some parts of the property is still ongoing. One big section (in the adjoining house) is a museum filled with stuffs the owner had collected from different places/countries he had visited as a driver. We met his hospitable wife who manages the entire property. We had brief stop at a small Orthodox church overlooking a grape vineyard. More pictures and pictures in here. Then, we proceed to a UNESCO-listed heritage site in Pocitelj that was built in the late 14th century. The site is very uphill but we were driven to the top. That saved us our (needed) energy from climbing. Amazing view from atop as we can see the new town in the valley and the long river on the other side. More pictures again. The exciting part of the trip is the Kravice Waterfalls / lagoon. Here we were give a long 2-hour break. Perfect view for more pics. We took advantage of the long stay in this area to test the cold waters in the lagoon. We dipped to our heart’s delight. Afterwhich, we took lunch in a sole-restaurant in the area. Last hop was the Virgin Mary apparition town of Medjugorie. Time was brief here. We managed to say our prayers inside the cathedral. Mind the dress code. We were not able to proceed to the actual apparition site/hill. That was fine as we had the full four hours the next day (DIY) to accomplish what we had planned for. We were joined by a Malaysian (Rafidah), an Australian (Sam) and two Belgian (Jimmy & Ben) tourists in this trip. For all of the above, I give this entire trip and Sasa … a perfect 10 (scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest)! It was all worth it. I highly recommend this trip to first time visitors in Bosnia.

Exceptional tour with an amazing guide - We have travelled a lot inside and outside of Europe, and we have done a history tour in most countries. We can honestly say that Sasha's tour was the best one so far, with super friendly services, great inside information, a friendly driver who wanted to show us his home-made house (and his fruit garden of which he gave us free samples) and an easy-going non-commercial vibe. Sasha tries to make the tour pleasant for everyone and if you have a special request or a problem, he will help you. A must if you are travelling in Mostar!

Mostar - It is a wonderful place to calm your soul. However be careful with petty thieves around. The shoppig is better in Mostar area or any area away from the main tourist zones.
