Highly recommend Freedive Iceland and the Silfra experience - My sister and I did the freedive at Silfra. It was a great experience. The water was chilly but you wear a 7mm wetsuit which keeps you comfortable. The cold water is only on your face but it is tolerable, you don't feel uncomfortable at all. Silfra is stunning. The water changes from a brownish hue to blue to green and it is clear. And even though there is no sea life, there is much to look at. The guys from Freedive were very helpful in helping us get ready and into properly fitting gear. They were also very entertaining. I highly recommend using them for this experience. My advice to anyone who wants to do this is to figure out how much weight you need to go deeper into the water in a 7mm wetsuit. It will make a big difference being properly weighted and the first meter down takes some effort.

Choose this tour over all the others - We are freedivers so we specially choose this tour - and we are glad we did. Even if you’ve never freedived, go with Freedive Iceland. The wetsuits were warm and seemed so much more comfortable than the drysuits everyone else had on. Plus, we were able to dive down and look around whenever we wanted. Our guide was calm and professional and sent us a link with pics a few days later. It was so great that we almost booked again for later in our trip. It was a highlight of our week in Iceland.

Freediving at 2°C it's just an incredible adventure! - I found this company while booking my tour through DIVE.IS. Freedive Iceland offers an unforgettable experience in the waters of Silfra, between two tectonic plates. Our guide was incredibly kind and attentive, ensuring that the entire group felt comfortable and safe during the freediving session. The location is simply stunning; the water visibility is amazing, allowing you to explore the cracks in a unique way. I highly recommend freediving with them. Fortunately, we had a sunny day, which allowed us to enjoy both the time in the water and walking alongside the tectonic plates at Thingvellir.

5/5 with local rockstar tour guide - This was an excellent tour with a local guide who is a very experienced free diver, Bjarni. He definitely made the tour. The plus with this tour is that it is a small, local company, which I prefer to support over larger organizations. We were the only 2 on the tour, so got the benefit of a private tour accidentally! The tour itself if fantastic with incredible views and those can speak for themselves. Using wet suits was much preferable to stay warmer than dry suits. Plus way more comfortable.

Fantastic underwater freedom - Prompt response by email, clean suits and well organised facilities all made for a great experience, thank you Bjarni. Being able to move around in the water, freely without scuba equipment or boyant dry suits (usually required for this type of activity) provided a truly magical memory.

Unforgettable experience - The ultimate tour with breathtaking underwater views. Swimming in Silfra was an once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Definitely a highlight of day 2 in Iceland where we visited the main Golden Circle landmarks. Here we could see where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates have slowly been separating. Apparently the only place in the world where you can swim directly in a crack between two continents. The pure glacial water is frigid but we got used to it after 5 minutes. As you will see, it was hard for me to squeeze myself into a wetsuit but I’m so glad I jumped! Freedive Iceland is the company we used. They provided all the equipment we needed plus great care, patience and a lot of humor! If you ever do this please do me a favor and drink the water:) Divine!

Incredible - I had the best time! I was nervous about getting cold without a dry suit, but the wet suit was more than enough to keep me warm. The added freedom of being able to actually dive into the water rather than staying on the surface was amazing. Our guide was knowledgeable and personable. I would go back and do this any day! Thank you for such an amazing memory.

Perfect!! Thanks to the Freedive team!! - Simply the best activity of our stay. Our Guide was at the top and kind to our group but also to other companies supervised by seasonal workers. The supervision was serious and the equipment quality. We were not cold despite a little waiting outside and swimming in the fault at 3°. Provide warm clothing for the return trip. Take the "freedive" option to swim with the weights and be able to dive!

Fantastic, 10/10! Read for gear specifics if you are nervous and want to research. - I had originally looked into drysuit snorkeling, and it was with a fair bit of nervousness that I booked a wetsuit freedive. I'm a good swimmer, but this water is significantly colder than any I had been in before. As someone who gets cold very easily, I wanted to be sure that the equipment was going to keep me warm enough. For folks like me wanting gear specifics: The suits are 2-piece Imersion Challenger freediving suits, paired up with 3-fingered Imersion spearfishing mittens and spearfishing socks. All the neoprene is 7mm and open-celled so it adheres tightly to your skin and, while it won't keep you dry, it allows for very little water movement against your body once saturated. It took a solid minute or two before I could feel any water making it through to me at all, and my body warmed it quickly. Between the hooded suits and the mask, only a small amount of skin around your mouth, cheeks, and forehead is exposed. It's a small enough area, and the scenery is so intensely beautiful and distracting that this wasn't a problem at all. After about 30-40 minutes of continuous exposure my fingers and toes were starting to succumb, but this was right at the natural end of the tour anyway. I did a couple of last dives, and climbed out into the comparatively balmy 50F/10C air. The hot cocoa back at the dive van put everything right again. TLDR; If I was warm enough, you definitely will be. An incredible experience that far surpasses being limited to just the surface. I can't wait to do this again!

Absolutely breathtaking (literally) - Highlight of my life! This was absolutely amazing! Wonder of the world. My guide was both cheerful and competent. Never did I feel unsafe or uncomfortable. My pics were amazing! And the hot coco after the end tasted better than any expensive vintage wine. I will return!
