Additional Information

Mjelle Beach is among the numerous beaches within close proximity to Bodø, offering an ideal spot for a day-trip from this scenic town. The idea of white sandy beaches may not be what you envision when Arctic Norway is mentioned. However, the reality is that some of Norway’s most breathtaking beaches are located in the north.

Exploring gemstones? Mjelle Beach is recognized by TripAdvisor as one of the top attractions while touring Bodø. This secluded beach, with its unique blend of white and red sand, is a favourite spot for locals and an excellent spot for a quick escape from Bodø. The red hue of the sand is a result of gemstone particles (garnet minerals).

Child-friendly: The journey to Mjelle Beach is a relaxed walk, ideal for young kids, as it’s only a half an hour walk from the parking area. For small kids, the beach serves as an enormous sandpit filled with free rocks and shells.

Great tour experience - It was a great tour experience. We were lucky to have good weather that day and our guide was very friendly, thoughtful and professional. We managed to see some sights and viewpoints in Bodo before heading to Mjelle Beach where we were able to do the walk at our own pace and enjoy the stunning landscape that surrounded us.

Outstanding experience!! - My wife and I just returned from our trip to Norway with several amazing memories. So many wonderful experiences, with the trip to Mjelle Beach as arguably the best of them all!! The scenery of the area was breathtaking and brought out the kids in us as we eagerly explored everything that there was to offer...the red garnet sand, rock formations, tide pools, streams, waterfalls, etc. Not only was it visually outstanding, but our incredible guide Ivar helped to make the experience even more special. On the ride to the beach, he was incredibly knowledgeable and informative of what we were seeing along the way as well as what to expect, and was such a lively conversationalist that helped us get into the spirit of the day. Upon arrival and during the hike to the beach, he was wonderfully mindful of making sure we were careful about any rocks that could be slippery while embracing our curiosity of all that we were taking in. At the beach, Ivar happily took any and all questions we had as well as allowing us to explore to our hearts desire. For all of the amazing things Norway has to offer (and there were A LOT of amazing things!!!), this trip to Mjelle Beach was absolutely stunning and I cannot recommend this trip enough for anyone going to Norway!!!

Views of peaks and pink beach - We sought out the amethyst sand of the beach but found free-range sheep, majestic peaks rising across the bay and crystal clear water. It is an easy hike from the well-indicated parking lot. There were a few scattered tent campers on the site.

Amazing experience! - I went for a 4 days-trip to Bodø in November and even though the weather was really bad, i decided to take the risk and book this visit! Couldn't be more lucky! The day was sunny and Ivar is such a really nice guide, so knowledgeable and helpful! I was the only one who booked on a sunday, and even so he was super available and did a private guide tour. The trip was a really enjoyable, and the beach is amazing (can't wait to visit again in the summer)! ! I highly recommend this tour, super easy to do even if you are never hiked in your life !
