Highlights
  • Bogotá - The scenery leading up to the waterfall is wonderful, green, with lots of fresh air. The hike itself is not the easiest, there and back it takes around 3 hours. But the view and the scenery makes it very much worth your while! There’s also a smaller waterfall at the beginning of the hike, the El Chiflón, of which you can even go behind – it provides an incredible experience for hikers. On the way to La Chorrera you go through a fantastic ‘fog forest’ that is surrounded by local farms and diverse local vegetation (bromeliads, orchids, etc.). You can get refreshing drinks and food from local farmers (freshly made stuffed arepas and empanadas). It’s incredible that only a few kilometers from the big metropolis of Bogotá, we can discover such natural beauties.

The tour includes:

  • Transfer between your accommodation in Bogotá and the La Chorrera waterfall (we begin the approx. 3-hour hike through the farms and indescribable fog forests from the entrance of the park)
  • Entrance to the park
  • Colombian local lunch
  • Walking tour in the Park (El Chiflón waterfall, La Chorrera waterfall, fog forest)
  • Private transport from Bogotá
What's Included

Additional Information

Enjoy a fantastic rural retreat in Colombia! The trek is one to be undertaken independently - the trail is completely secure!

A 90-minute drive from Bogotá transports you to La Chorrera waterfall which, at a height of 590 meters, is the tallest in Colombia. Surprisingly, this fantastic site is not popularly known and remains a secret treasure. To reach the site, you must traverse the mountainous surroundings of Bogotá standing tall at 3400 meters.

The path leading up to the waterfall is verdantly delightful and filled with fresh air. The trek, however, is not a cakewalk; a round trip takes roughly 3 hours. But given the stunning vistas presented, it’s undoubtedly worth the effort!

Located at the trail’s outset is a smaller waterfall, El Chiflon, which you can even venture behind, offering a remarkable experience for hikers. The path to La Chorrera waterfall carves its way through an enchanting ‘fog forest’ fringed by local farmlands. You also have the chance to indulge in refreshing beverages and foods prepared by the local farmers, including deliciously stuffed arepas and empanadas.

Beautiful hike - Omar was on time, friendly and clean car. Trip to waterfall was terrific if not longer due to Bogota famous traffic. The waterfalls was beautiful. He walked to ticket center and we were off to hike the trail. Hike was about intermediate with some climbing. The views was amazing as well as the lunch that was included. After eating lunch the second waterfall was there to view.

Must-Do Activity When In Bogota - Amazing views on the drive there (took about 1.5 hours) into the panoramic valley east of Bogota, and then freedom to hike to three main places - Cueva de los Monos, La Chorrera, El Chiflon - plus some 'off-piste' options. Great views, good hiking (some mud/slippery rocks so take good shoes), and a good lunch. All well-organised by Peter at YourColombia who was very responsive on communications.

Breathtaking - The whole experience was fantastic! As soon as we booked the trip through here, the organizer, Peter, got in contact with us through WhatsApp right away to give us the itinerary for the trip. He was also very reachable and available for any questions that we had. The day of the trip, we got picked up at our hotel, drove to the park where the driver got down with us to purchase our entrance and lunch tickets. The hike to La Chorrera is not the easiest so definitely eat a big breakfast before! It took us about 1.5 hours to make it to the waterfall, and the same time to walk back. The path is also very clearly marked and organized, and there are park staff along the way in case you need help. The lunch area near the smaller waterfall, El Chiflón, is very nice and the food is delicious. Overall an amazing and breathtaking experience; highly recommend the journey and booking through this agency!

Perfect trip to a beautiful area! - Thanks Sergio for letting me have such an amazing experience! The ride from Bogotá to the starting point of the walk/hike is around 1:20 hrs. For people with a medium fitness level it is absolutely no problem to go on this hike. We walked through the rain forest and the foggy forest, visited La Chorrera and the smaller waterfall with enough time for little breaks to take fotos and enjoy the landscape and nature. On the way back we had dinner at a very small Cuban restaurant, that was amazing. My guide Sergio picked me up around midday, which was a wonderful idea, as we were able to appreciate the sunset over the mountains during dinner. I can highly recommend this trip!

Amazing Tour!!! - This was easily our favourite tour during the time we spent in Bogota. Our tour guide, Sergio, first communicated with us via WhatsApp to arrange a time and pick up at our hotel, and he arrived on time to pick us up for our private tour. He was a very friendly and welcoming tour guide and his English was fantastic. It was very easy and comfortable to communicate with him throughout the day. Sergio was am AMAZING tour guide. He is very passionate about his country and he was extremely knowledgable about the history and culture of Colombia. We had many interesting conversations with him and learned so much during our tour. The hike was moderately difficult at times and Sergio moved at whatever pace we wanted. We finished the hike with an enjoyable lunch at a Cuban restaurant before heading back to town. After the tour, Sergio continued to communicate with us on WhatsApp and sent us some information on topics that we had been interested in during our discussions. In summary, we LOVED this tour and we look forward to coming back and doing more tours with Sergio in the future! Thank you for a great experience :) Chelsea & Mike

Awesome Experience! - Very amazing experience, but must be in good shape - the hike is around 7-10K with lot's of altitude climbing. My Fitbit reported 150+ flights of stairs. The guide was great - a Bogota local who took me on a personal tour (only me, not a group). He picked me up at my hotel and dropped me off in the city center (La Candelaria) at my request. Had a lot of passion for Bogota and very knowledgeable. Very great experience and completely satisfied.

Waterfall hike - Spectacular scenery along the drive from Bogota to the small town and then the hike to both of the falls. The hike was moderate difficulty level I would say, but well worth it for the vistas. The lunch at the Cuban restaurant at the trail exit was a fun finishing touch. Peter was an outstanding tour guide. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to get out of the city and explore nearby Bogota.

Excellent experience - It was a great private experience that gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Peter our guide picked us up from the hotel and drove us up into the mountains. He was very friendly and knowledgeable on the area's culture. We hiked to two waterfalls which took 3 hours there and back. It was a great scenic hike and I thoroughly lived it. At the end of the walk we stopped for lunch at a restaurant with a good view and a good feed. The chef was a funny/lively character who told us the secret ingredient to making the perfect mojito (which you will have to find out by going along ;) ). All in all it was well worth the money and I look forward to going on more tours with Peter in the future.
