Fun with Italian pasta making - Seeing an Italian residence, meeting other people, learning a few tips about making pasta. The place was a tad difficult to locate.

Wonderful experience with a very sweet host! - We did the lunchtime cooking class. After reading some previous reviews, we weren’t sure what to expect but it was completely lovely! Irene is wonderful and we ended up with a private class because only the 2 of us had signed up. The space probably isn’t ideal for 10-12 people, but 5-6 would be easy and for just two of us it was more than enough. I am pregnant and Irene was very considerate about what I could and couldn’t eat/do (even suggesting my partner break the eggs, using a spoon instead of my hands for meat filling etc). She taught us 3 different ways to make pasta and then prepared the rest of the meal for us. It was delicious!! She provided the link to her website which has the recipes for the pasta as well as the filling, encouraged us to take as many pictures/videos as we wanted, and answered all our questions readily. Irene gave really clear directions on how to get to her place, which bus to take, and Google maps helped us confirm. It is out of the city, but neighborhood was fine and easy to get to on the bus from the city center. As advertised, the class is at her home so her husband and later adult son were there, but they were both helpful and friendly too. Some reviews were concerned about the cleanliness of the house or the fact that we used their family bathroom to wash hands(?) but none of these posed concerns for us, knowing the class was in her home. In fact, the encouragement for frequent hand washing was a welcome recommendation for a cooking class. Overall, we would recommend this class to anyone and it was totally worth the time and (small) trek on the bus to get to see a new part of town and genuine Bologna home/family experience!

Fun with Pasta! How can you go wrong? - Irene is a wonderful host and a great cook! She is very knowledgeable of the history and tradition of the food you will be preparing. It is mainly three different types of traditional Bolognese pastas, she told us she alters the types and the final preparation depending on the seasons that coincide with how the locals adapt home cuisine during different parts of the year. It was fun and we learned how even the most rustic (full of what we might have thought were mistakes) pasta shapes turn out beautiful on the late after cooking. You can’t get more authentic than that! Irene’s simple sauces are mouth watering and she provides a link to her website with all the recipes so you can prepare the dishes yourself at home.

Small group pasta making - Irene a great host. She explained the pasta making process very well and was patient with us. Then she cooked the pasta for us and we had lunch along with really good balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and ground black truffle. The only criticism I would give was that the directions to her apartment were not explained well enough. We took the bus and the directions should have said that on the opposite side of the little shopping center there were a group of apartment buildings. That is exactly where we needed to go. That’s why got confused.

Wonderful few hours cooking with Irene - Me and my 2 children (aged 11 and 13) really enjoyed the cooking class with Irene. She was an attentive and very friendly host with a passion for food and first class English. The class is held in her family flat with family life going on around you but to us this only made the experience more interesting as you got a feel for how a Bolognese family live. To fully enjoy the experience you must get in the kitchen and help with the cooking of the dishes and not just prepare the pasta. Be prepared to ask lots of questions which Irene is only too happy to answer. We had a great time and my children are itching to put the lessons we learnt into practice. Thanks again Irene.

Highlight of Our Trip - How could we put this into words? Irene was such a welcoming and generous host and we felt so comfortable in her kitchen. The food was the best that we’ve tasted on our holiday, and we’re sure this is down to such a fantastic teacher. We learnt so much about the history of Bologna and its cuisine, more than any museum or guide book! If you’re looking for a truly authentic and unique experience, look no further!
