One of the best experiences we’ve ever done! - My boyfriend and I were visiting Bologna from London in February and wanted to do a cooking class, and thankfully we stumbled upon this one with Fred! What an AMAZING class this was - we learnt so much about pasta, especially tortellini which we’ve now made at home multiple times since being back. The mixture of sauces, pasta styles and a dessert was great. There was such variety and so much to learn. Fred was an excellent teacher who got everyone involved, making sure no one was left out. He guided us through each step carefully and sent us the recipes after which was so helpful. It was so authentic to have done this experience at Fred’s flat, one that has been so memorable. We would recommend this experience to absolutely EVERYONE!!! Thank you so much Fred, we hope to be back one day!!

Everything was so much fun! - We booked this experience based on a friend’s recommendation but we did not have any clue of what was waiting for us. We had so much fun and we learned great cooking skills. We met very cool people from different parts of the globe and continued our trip together afterwards. Whole experience was beyond our expectations and the tiramisu was so GOOD

Disappointing attitude but taught us to make excellent tiramisu. - We arrived approximately 10 minutes early for the lesson, having walked from our hotel. However, we were advised to return later. When we did return, we were approximately 5 minutes late. Upon entering the fourth-floor flat, I immediately realized there was a cat present, triggering my phobia and allergy. The host's response was rather curt, stating that they couldn't remove the cat as it might scratch their door. They offered little assistance. I retreated to the small kitchen as the cat remained in the living room throughout the evening, fortunately. It's worth noting that our Viator booking ticket made no mention of a cat. Despite this, the host demonstrated good cooking skills, and their simple tiramisu was excellent. However, I wish they had shown more consideration for us as clients. Additionally, other participants in the class received wine and we were not offered untill much later. I would ask you look at other sites before you book.

BEWARE OF LAST MINUTE CANCELLATIONS - STAY AWAY from this company. We booked this class back in April (class was to be held on May 29) and were told 48 hours before that the host found a bigger party and they could no longer accommodate us. We built our itinerary around this class and could not find another one on such short notice. Very disappointing.

Do not buy wine. - Dinner experience was great. Fred was very hospitable and friendly. He even made reservations for us at a local restaurant for another day. The dinner was great, but DO NOT buy wine from him. As others have mentioned https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187801-d17781690-r824582133-Stay_Hungry_Stay_Bologna-Bologna_Province_of_Bologna_Emilia_Romagna.html, you are VERY unlikely to get the wine, your money back, or any help from Fred.

Overly casual and underwhelming - Casual to the point that it was unprofessional and disappointing. The host was welcoming, however wearing his pyjamas which was a bit of a red flag at the start we felt we were interrupting his evening or he didn't know we were coming as he was a bit underdressed. He also didn't introduce himself (I still don't know his name), did not ask our names, or explain what we the program was for the evening? Unfortunately as the host has a new baby, his home was a little untidy and again, we felt that we were interrupting his family's evening as it is a small apartment. His lovely partner was popping into the kitchen at times and he was also leaving often. It is ok that you are tending to your family, but perhaps don't host a group cooking class if you don't have time or space to do it at your home and give it 100% of your attention. At one point you also said you were a chef, and then later you said you are not a chef, just an untrained home cook? The kitchen was untidy, and I did not feel it was up to standard for hosting groups of 8 people as it was a small space approx 3m x 4m and fairly untidy. It was comfortable to sit, however only one person could participate at a time, and we could not see what was happening at the cooktop area. This was ok as not much as actually cooked during the class. The initial serving of pizza was undercooked and very bland, with no explanation of how it was cooked. Not a great start to a cooking class. We watched the host make some pasta dough, no measurements or recipe was explained. We had to ask a few times before he would tell us, and reassured us we would get an email with the recipe, this to me is not a cooking class. If I want to read a recipe on my computer I will google it or go on YouTube. The pasta was fine, but under seasoned. The sauce was terrible. Tomato Passata from a jar, with a few crushed cherry tomatoes, again no seasoning, was very bland and did not compliment the tortelloni. The recipe was too simple, we did not actually participate in cooking the sauce, and did not have a good taste. I'm also not sure it is typical of the region as I have not seen this in any places I have eaten or in reading menus of restaurants in bologna. The ragu was clearly reheated from frozen. Again, I understand that it takes many hours to cook a ragu, but there was no participation in preparing the sauce, and more curious, your home did not smell like you had been preparing a ragu for the past 6hours. The taste was average at best, it was not fully reheated and I have made better at my own home. I did learn to put a few more types of meat in there which was interesting. The desert tiramisu was good tasting, but very overly simple and a bit cheap only using one lady finger biscuit per serving broken in half. It could have been more generous. But the taste was on par with others I have had while in bologna. Some other notes that may help you improve your service; if you know you are hosting groups of 8 people, you should have 8 matching plates, matching cutlery, etc. also have appropriate serving utensils, as we served our pasta with a meat carving fork? If this is your business and you have many customers you should invest in making your operation more professional as your casual attitude is unfortunately unprofessional at the price you are charging. Your experience offers a wonderful insight into the life of a young family in Bologna, and some may find it charming, but not a great cooking class because it was too simple, not enough space for participation, and not great recipes typical of the region. I am sure you will reply with many counter points, however this was my opinion based on my experience, and I hope you can use the feedback constructively to improve your business as you seem like a nice guy.
