In Rio de Janeiro, anticipation for the samba school party begins well in advance of the carnival itself. Parade rehearsals at the Sambadrome for Groups A, B, and Especial commences mid-year, and the school yards welcome enthusiasts of all ages to generate some heat with their tambourines.

The court sessions are a confluence of youth, the local community, visitors, and famous faces in vibrant celebrations, where the drum queens and school muses typically make their regular appearances.
