Setting off from Brasov, the trip takes us to explore the Rupea Fortress - a medieval structure that remarkably withstood the test of time, located in a region once facing the frontlines of the Ottoman infiltration into Central Europe. We’ll make a stop in Viscri, where we’ll tour the fortified church - a heritage site protected by UNESCO, and meet the village’s blacksmith.
Next, we head towards Sighisoara, initiating a walking tour (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes) around the medieval heart of the city. Highlights include the striking Clock Tower, and The Vlad Dracul House, the historic residence of Vlad Dracul (the sire of Vlad the Impaler), and the alleged birthplace of Vlad the Impaler himself. The Weapons Collection and the Torture Room, which served as a torture chamber during the medieval era, are situated at the base of the Clock Tower.
A visit to the Church on the Hill can be made by ascending the 175-step covered wooden Scholars’ Stairs. There is enough free time allowed for those interested in capturing a piece of Sighisoara through souvenirs.
