After 1.5-2 hours of driving from Brasov, you’ll arrive at the stunning Saint Ana’s Lake, located at an altitude of 950 meters in the Ciomat Mountains. The lake’s breathtaking beauty captivates every visitor. Formed in the crater of a volcano that erupted around 32,000 years ago, it has become a favorite destination in Transylvania for nature enthusiasts.

The allure of the lake and its surroundings is enhanced by fascinating legends.

Across from the lake, in another crater, nature has created a peat bog, a protected area home to unique carnivorous plants like the Drosera rotundifolia, miniature conifers, and more. (Visits are only possible during the summer.)

After exploring the lake and bog, the tour guide will drive to Balvanyos. From there, a moderate uphill walk of approximately 30 minutes leads to the ‘Stinky Caves’ and the ‘Bird Cemetery.’ These sites feature sulphurous gas emissions due to post-volcanic activity, which the guide will explain with engaging tricks and stories.

To conclude the day before returning to Brasov, enjoy the various mineral water springs at the Tusnad Bai resort. These springs naturally emerge from the ground and are frequently used by locals and visitors for their health benefits.
