Setting Sail on the Adriatic

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as my group of thrill-seekers and I boarded the ferry from Gazenica to Brbinj, our hearts pounding with anticipation for the Dugi Otok Kayak Adventure. The promise of exploring the rugged paradise of Dugi Otok, with its sheer cliffs and secret bays, was enough to get our adrenaline pumping. As a former extreme sports athlete, I’ve faced many challenges, but the unpredictable nature of the sea always adds an extra layer of excitement.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by our enthusiastic guides who quickly gathered us and transported us to our first location. The air was filled with a sense of camaraderie as we prepared our kayaks, each of us eager to conquer the waves. Despite the fact that none of us had kayaked before, the guides’ clear instructions and encouragement made us feel confident and ready to tackle the adventure ahead.

The waves were too high, and the risk was too great. Our guide, ever the professional, made the call to prioritize safety over thrill, a decision I respected deeply. Instead, we ventured to a secluded bay, accessible only by water. The crystal-clear waters invited us to snorkel, revealing a vibrant underwater world teeming with life. It was a moment of tranquility amidst the adrenaline, a reminder of the beauty that lies beneath the surface.

The return journey was a test of endurance as we battled the towering waves. The thrill of conquering the elements was palpable, and though the original itinerary had to be altered, the experience was no less exhilarating. Beachside Revelry

With the sea conditions dictating our day, we found ourselves at the stunning Sakarun Beach. Known for its white sands and azure waters, it was the perfect setting for a traditional Croatian beach game. The instructors led the way, and soon we were all engaged in a spirited game of Picigin, laughter echoing across the beach.

As the day drew to a close, we boarded an earlier ferry back to our starting point, our spirits high despite the changes to our plans. The guides’ professionalism and the partial refund offered were testament to their commitment to providing an unforgettable experience.
