• Animal Flower Cave - Located at the northernmost point of Barbados in St. Lucy, the Animal Flower Cave gets its name from the sea anemones found in its pools, some of which are deep enough for swimming. The cave features several openings with spectacular sea views and walls colored green and brown by copper and iron oxidation. Look for formations resembling a lizard, turtle, and hand as you explore. Visit the clifftop bar and restaurant for the best lemonade in Barbados, along with other drinks and local dishes. The area also includes a large children’s playpark and stalls selling local jewelry, art, and crafts. The surrounding cliffs offer stunning views of the northern coast, where Atlantic waves crash against the rocks.

• Barbados Wildlife Reserve - This is the animal kingdom of Barbados, where you can walk freely among animals feeding and playing in their natural environment. See agouti, armadillo, Brocket deer, pelicans, and caimans. Monkeys are most abundant at afternoon feeding time. Reptiles include snakes, iguanas, turtles, and tortoises. Parrots, flamingos, and peacocks add bright splashes of color. Only the more dangerous animals, such as pythons, are kept enclosed. Top Tip: Arrive by 2pm to see the monkeys, especially the babies, being fed!

• St. Nicholas Abbey - Built in 1658, this Jacobean Great House is one of only three remaining in the Western Hemisphere. The property has been tastefully restored as a sustainable heritage attraction and working plantation, producing its own unique single cask rums, which have received international acclaim. The tour includes the Great House, gardens, small museum, factory, distillery, a must-see short movie circa 1930, and rum tasting. For enthusiasts, the private Rum Experience Tour is bookable on select days with owner Larry Warren. The plantation also features an authentic Victorian steam railway.

• Sunbury Plantation House - Built around 1660 by Matthew Chapman, an Irish/English planter and one of the first settlers on the island, Sunbury Plantation House is over 300 years old and steeped in history. It features mahogany antiques, old prints, antique porcelain dolls, and a unique collection of horse-drawn carriages. The house has undergone several name changes and is the only great house in Barbados with all rooms available for viewing.

• George Washington House - George Washington House in Barbados is a historic site where the future first U.S. President George Washington is believed to have stayed in 1751. At 19 years old, he traveled with his half-brother, Lawrence Washington, who was suffering from tuberculosis. George Washington contracted smallpox during his stay and was nursed back to health at the house. Barbados is the only country outside the present United States that George Washington ever visited.

• Welchman Hall Gully - Located in St. Thomas, Welchman Hall Gully is a three-quarter mile long gully home to various tropical plants and trees, including nutmeg, bamboo, clove, and palms. The gully, formed by collapsed cave roofs, is geologically connected to the adjacent Harrison’s Cave. Visitors can enjoy a self-guided walk along a shaded path, explore bamboo groves and cave formations, and see monkeys at play.

• Bathsheba Beach - Legend has it that Bathsheba, wife of King David, bathed in milk to keep her skin beautiful and soft. The surf-covered white waters of Bathsheba, rich in minerals, are said to resemble Bathsheba’s bath in both appearance and health benefits. • Gun Hill Signal Station - Located in St. George, Gun Hill Signal Station is the largest and most important military outpost in Barbados, with military associations dating back to at least 1697. • St. James Parish Church - St. James Parish Church is one of the four oldest surviving churches in Barbados, located near the site of the island’s first settlement in Holetown. The original wooden church, built in 1628, was replaced by a coral-stone building 60 years later. The church features mural tablets, stained glass windows, and a bell cast in 1696. The burial ground contains some of the oldest graves on the island.

• St. John’s Parish Church - One of Barbados’ oldest church sites, this classic Gothic-style church offers panoramic views of the eastern beaches from its cemetery. The church features impressive interior woodwork, including an elaborate pulpit and sweeping staircases, as well as grand headstones and crypts.

• Speightstown - Also known as Little Bristol, Speightstown is the second-largest city center in Barbados, located 12 miles north of Bridgetown in St. Peter. Named after William Speight, a member of Barbados’ first Assembly, the city features the Speightstown Mural and other attractions.

• Carlisle Bay - Carlisle Bay is a small natural harbor in southwest Barbados, home to the capital city of Bridgetown. The bay has been turned into a marine park, popular for scuba diving and featuring relics such as anchors and cannonballs on the ocean floor.

• Cherry Tree Hill - At approximately 850 feet above sea level, Cherry Tree Hill offers excellent views of the “Scotland District” in St. Andrew. The area was once home to many cherry trees, now replaced by mahogany trees and sugar cane fields.

• Rihanna Drive Monument - The Rihanna Drive Monument in St. Michael pays tribute to the world-famous Barbadian singer and global icon, Rihanna. The monument showcases her achievements and contributions to music and culture and is a symbol of pride for Barbados.

• Kensington Oval - Located in western Bridgetown, Kensington Oval is the premier sporting facility in Barbados, primarily used for cricket. The stadium has hosted many important cricket games over its 120-year history.

• Farley Hill National Park - Set in the grounds of the once regal Farley Hill house, this national park features breathtaking scenery, a mansion in ruins, and a forest of mahogany trees. The park is a popular spot for picnics, nature walks, and weddings.

The synagogue was rebuilt in 1833 after being damaged in a hurricane. The Sephardic community was orthodox, with men worshipping on the lower level and women in the upstairs gallery. The number of Jewish residents in Barbados dwindled after 1834, with many migrating to the United States and the United Kingdom.
