Embark on a 90-minute vibrant expedition of Brighton, uniquely narrated from the perspective of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer individuals. The journey meanders through the beach and the iconic city centre, shedding light on over two centuries of history like the Regency Dandies, the lesbian and gay lifestyle of the 1950s and instances of political activism. The tour includes interesting stories about Anne Lister’s Brighton visit (the protagonist of the BBC/HBO series Gentleman Jack), figures like Lord Byron, Oscar Wilde and Dusty Springfield, and the unknown yet impactful individuals such as a trailblazing female doctor who assumed a male identity before women were permitted to be doctors, an Edwardian ‘drag king’ and witnesses to a ‘same-sex’ marriage in 1923. The experience is designed for a small group of up to 12 participants to ensure good-quality interaction.
