Highlights
  • Friet Museum - On the ground floor you can learn about the fascinating history of the potato which originated in Peru more than 10,000 years ago.

On the first floor, the visitor can discover the history of the fries and how they came to Belgium and in the basement of the building, in the medieval cellars, it is even possible to sample some.

The Frietmuseum completes the choice of museums in harmony with all the others which the town of Bruges has to offer and allows the visitor to discover the origins of one of the greatest Belgian culinary specialities, of which we are very proud: potato fries.

The museum was created by the families Cédric and Eddy Van Belle who also created in Bruges the Belgian chocolate museum, Choco-Story, and the domestic lighting museum, Lumina Domestica.

Informative and fun visit - We visited the museum as a family. All the posters teach a lot and are very colorful (in addition to being in 3 languages) There are a lot of interesting objects, videos, newspaper clippings. And we can eat fries or a snack downstairs. To recommend !

Combi-ticket - Bought a combi-ticket at the chocolate story museum, which made the entrance fee more worthwhile. It didn't take too long to go around, but we found out some interesting facts about potatoes and their health benefits! Came out hungry for fries (didn't bother with the cafe!) A good way to spend an hour on a rainy day, better than expected.

It is indeed a museum on fries (but also and above all on potatoes) - It was a great discovery. The museum explains in astonishing detail the history of the potato (essential ingredient of fries all the same) which is not exactly what we often believe (I'm not saying too much) then focuses (always with the good humor that the Belgians have the secret) on that of the fries. Try the fries sold at the cellar, they are made according to the rules of the art and quite good.

Well worth a visit - Got a reduced-price ticket as we visited the chocolate museum. Really interesting place. Who knew there were so many uses for potatoes or varieties of them? Good, cheap food in the cafe.

Museum good, fries bad - The museum is fun and educational. The fries you can take at the end were an anti-climax. It was very greasy, pale and not crispy. Very bad for a chip museum...

Not recommended - Went here with great expectations, left absolutely disappointed. The museum is not interactive and the interactive bit like the quiz and games were all broken (we haven't been told before going in). The cloakroom is not checked despite being behind the till so if you leave your stuff is at your own risk. There is some amazing information at the beginning about potatoes and then nothing else. Just memorabilia with no explanation whatsoever. Great art but again no explanation. Oh also IT DOESN'T COME WITH FRIES so there is no trying. They cost 2.80 euros and with your ticket you get 0.40 euro off it (just fries not drinks ,menu or anything else) , long waiting and not that good (in my opinion). I won't recommend going here unless you don't have anything else to do and outside is pouring rain. It was a waste of money.

I paid the admission again - I bought it on the Tripadvisor page. And the place did not recognize the payment. I had to pay the admission again. I do not recommend buying from this page.

Tourist trap - Perfectly uninteresting museum. A real tourist trap. Only boards to read, no interactivity. We arrived 5 minutes before the end time for accepting visitors. Once we paid we were told that the fry tastings ended in 5 minutes... We didn't want to run so we didn't go. We were not informed of the number of stairs. Run away.

Tourist traps - Tourist trap, move on! Apart from an explanation of the origin of the potato which may be vaguely interesting, everything pushes you to go buy poor quality fries at the cellar, and super expensive
