Its mission is to protect the species and help repopulate Romanian forests with bison. Established in 1983, the reserve aims to adapt the species to the plains. The bison, the largest land animal in Europe, has a robust body, with males weighing between 800-1000 kg and females between 500-700 kg at maturity.
• Princely Court - Targoviste Fortress is a key medieval monument in Romania, dating back to the 15th century. This former princely court served as a residence for notable princes of Southern Romania, including the legendary Vlad the Impaler (Dracula), who constructed the iconic Chindia Tower.
• Snagov Monastery - Situated on a small island near Bucharest, Snagov Church is a significant religious monument in Southern Romania. Originally part of a monastery, the church dates back to medieval times when local princes supported, fortified, and expanded it to bolster the Orthodox Church. The church is also linked to legends about Vlad the Impaler. Although unproven, it is said that monks secretly buried him here to avoid Ottoman retribution. A symbolic tomb of the prince is located inside the church, in front of the altar.
