Highlights
  • National Theatre Ion Luca Caragiale (Teatrul Nakional Ion Luca Caragiale) - Your Bucharest tour begins at the National Theatre the geographical and administrative heart of the city, and the scene of titanic street battles between miners and students immediately after the Romanian Revolution.
  • Strada Batiștei - We will take a short walk to Strada Batistei, formerly known as the ‘St Germain’ of Bucharest and the site of the old American embassy, now an overgrown testament to different times. This area is famed for its 19th-century Neo Romanian architecture that defines much of the national style.
  • Biserica Batiștei - We will pass by the Batiștei Church (Romanian: Biserica Batiștei) is a Romanian Orthodox church with an interesting history.
  • The Armenian Church - We’ll then make your way to the Armenian quarter. The Armenians were a vibrant and successful merchant community in the 18th and 19th centuries, thanks to their valuable role as ‘middlemen’ for the Ottomans. Based around the Armenian church, their mahalla (neighborhood) features a spectacular variety of architectural styles from all over Europe and the Ottoman empire, as the wealthy merchants strove to out-do each other in taste and elegance. Classical, Belle Époque, Modernist, New-Romanian, Balkanic, eclectic — this quarter boasts all these styles, including the oldest documented house in Bucharest, which you will visit.
  • Calea Moșilor - After, we’ll experience the quintessential Bucharest public transport: a short ride on a tram. Rattling along the famous Mosilor Street, you’ll enter into Communist Bucharest, with its regimented blocks and housing projects, as you make your way to the famous Obor Market.
  • Piata Obor Bucuresti - We will spend some time in the main market of the city bustling with colours smells and amazing street food to enjoy. You will have time to do some shopping for traditional items after which we will sit down to taste some local produce and extremely tasty street food.

A unique experience in Bucharest - one you will never forget. - After three days on tour in Bucharest my family and friends were ready to see a different side of the city. This tour did not disappoint. We braved 100 degree (F) weather to experience delicious Romanian food and local hangouts that you can not do with larger groups. Our guide, Bogdan, educated us on the history of the city and how that influenced the architecture. He shared with us popular Romanian street food which in a few cases he purchased from small shops with just windows. The food-related highlight of the tour was our visit to the Obor farmers market where Bogdan purchased fresh fruits, vegetables and cheese. He then took us to Terasa Obor - a popular place frequented by the locals for their delicious mici. The fruits, vegetables and cheese were prepared by Bogdan and served with the mici. It was wonderful! But the best part was Bogdan. He was open and honest - answering our questions and sharing the highlights of the city, the progress that has been made and the work that needs to be done. If given the chance, everyone should have the opportunity to experience a city this way. Thank you, Bogdan, for sharing YOUR city.

Experience Bucharest food and culture - This was one of the coolest experiences we’ve ever had. We saw parts of the city we never would have found on our own and we were able to experience the culture of local food and the market. Alex was an exceptional guide. He was so fun and knowledgeable. This is a great tour if you really want access to parts of Bucharest that would be impossible to find on your own. And the food was amazing!!!

Great food tour - Cannot say enough about how great this was. We weren't just in the "touristy" part of town either. Our guide passed down so much good intro info about bucharest as well. He also was flexible given we had kids with us and it was 95°. I would definitely do this again in a heart beat

Culture & food - Great tour with Adrian. Really enjoyed learning more about the history of the city and all the different architecture designs. There were two other couples, which made it a good size tour to find out where everyone was travelling to and from and get some good hints and tips for different destinations.

Learned a lot about Bucharest along with the food and drink - We met our guide (Bogdan) on the steps of the National Theatre without any issues. There were a total of seven of us on the tour from multiple countries, but the tour was done all in English. Bogdan gave us an introduction to his country and handed each of us a covrigi (Romanian soft pretzel) while we sat on the steps and talked about Romania. We then walked through neighborhoods to view all the architectural styles of the city before a stop at a restaurant where we shared peasant platters of meats, cheeses, vegetables, spreads and bread along with beer or wine. We ended the tour at the Obor Market where we had the opportunity to sample more vegetables, cheeses and grilled sausages along with a Wallachian donut. By the end of the tour, we were satisfied with the quantity of food and drink that we had the opportunity to sample.
