A great tour. - Our host was very friendly and knowledgeable. We learnt a lot about the city, Romanian culture, the history of communism and how that affects people today. It’s a great way to be introduced to some highlights in the city over a relatively short time span. If you’re on the fence about going, just go. We’re not history buffs by any stretch of the imagination, but had a much better experience than expected.

A must experience - This tour is definitely something to talk about after you attend it. T The tour guide, Mihai, is a very likeable guy, with loads of knowledge about history, geography and culture of Romania. We walked for 3 hours (with a stop for coffee and rest) through the most important places in Bucharest, and he really narrated everything about Romania from 20th century to now. The amazing thing about this tour was that it provided you with information so that you understand everything you see around (from the huge Soviet buildings in the riverside to the weird steam coming from the underground). The tour was ultimately focused on how communism ravaged the lives of everyday people in Romania and how leaders like chausescu destroyed the country and wasted government money. If you expect a tour that explores both the pros and cons of communism in Romania, this is not your tour. Overall a very nice experience, that gives you a lot to talk about. Probably, sadly, communism can not be achieved after all ,

Great Tour to learn about Bucharest - I took part in this tour on March 22nd 2025 with Mihai as a tour guide. The tour was exactly as advertised on Viator. It is quite some walking, including down a hill and on uneven streets, so I wouldn't recommend it to people with mobility issues. Note that the tour does NOT include entering the buildings you see, except the patriarchal church in the beginning. The tour was very informative and gave me a new view of the city (I had visited Bucharest before). Mihai is very knowledgeable and can relate complex info to a general audience in excellent English. I have some hearing damage but could follow everything (he used a portable speaker sometimes). He showed prints of important pictures related to the events but especially is a good storyteller. If Mihai did a podcast on Romanian history, I would absolutely subscribe! I recommend this tour to friends visiting the city, I really enjoyed it.

The Real tour of Communism (Bucharest) - The Real tour of Communism (Bucharest) I took this tour in March 2025 in Bucharest and I had a very nice time. It was one of my best walking tours! Our local guide Octavian was amazing and very knowledgeable about Bucharest and its Communism era and I enjoyed walking with him! There were people from US, UK and Greece in our group. We got to know each other while walking and had a nice conversation. We stopped in a Coffee Shop along our way. Octavian gave us small snacks and small gifts to all the women. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bucharest.
