OK, but not the best bus - I always recommend people do a hop on / hop off bus whenever they get to a new city, and I will keep on saying that as it is a good way to get around and see the main parts. So the bad points on our bus.... The weather was looking to be wet, so the team had fitted a heavy duty plastic cover over the roof to keep people dry..... Which is great but the problem was that the room between the cover and the seats was very low, so that unless you were under 1.3m you had to bend very low. We also found that the audio on the bus did not work very well... Some of the sockets did not work at all, and some worked only partly.....the English audio itself was very heavily accented, and it was not well timed or instructed... so usually you heard stuff after the point of interest. And as people have mentioned we had to change at stop 7...but we didn't have the delay there that some people seem to have had. Now the good stuff. People have commented on the staff. We didn't find them rude... Indeed at the central stop which is opposite St Stephens, the gentleman was really helpful. Again some of the reviews comment about smoking, but in fairness you need to adapt to the country you are in. The tickets we had were 2 day so also included a 1 hour river cruise and a walking tour. We didn't do the river cruise because we ran out of time, but the walking tour with Rebekah was a highlight and would definitely recommend it. So overall... We'll still do Hop on / Hop off to get a feel for new places. The team that we met were helpful but the audio guide wasn't so great on this one.

Extremely difficult to redeem voucher - Very difficult to redeem voucher. We wandered around for a long time because online maps were not taking us to the center. We found a vendor for hop on hop off and he turned his back on us and wouldn't help us because he doesn't deal with online purchases. Very rude. Five minutes later a group of women came and asked him and he helped them. Thankfully they helped us. Once we got on the bus, we found many of the plug in for audio tours were broken. When they were working it was difficult to hear. We preferred the open top busses. It was also very difficult to understand what stop we were on. All throughout the bus, we could hear murmurs asking where we were. We did enjoy the boat tour a lot. It was beautiful. It definitely is a nice way to see around the city.

Not great.. - If you’re looking to find out about Budapest then I’d find an alternative. The information was delayed meaning you’d already passed the location the audio was talking about! The only thing that made it worthwhile was the evening boat ride that was included - although be prepared to queue for up to an hour & beware of other selfish tourists trying to jump the queue! Buses weren’t clean nor were they comfortable. I’d pay the extra for a private tour or opt for a walking tour if you can manage. Stops are not easy to find and the App is temperamental again delayed so often we found we were missing buses that the app said were on their way!

Room for improvement - We have used the Big Bus hop-on-hop-off in many cities around the world and the Budapest tour is the most disappointing by far. Most bus stops are not marked so good luck guessing where to get on. One bus left as a lady in front of us was attempting to get on board. The commentary was not up to the usual standard, disjointed and lacked in detail. There are two lines (Red and Green) yet only one is mentioned on the website which adds to the general confusion when people get on the wrong bus. The Big Bus hop-on and the City Sightseeing hop-on bus are the same company, this is not clear, not clear on our tickets or their website, again adding to the confusion.

Poor Company - It’s true, terrible service. We went to the main office to redeem our voucher for tickets and were instead sent across the road to the bus. The driver ignored us waiting at the door before finally waving us on without looking. Ok. We got off at Heroes Square and when we returned to the bus stop there were two buses and two drivers outside. We asked how long until one of them left and were told ten minutes. We came back in ten minutes and asked which bus to hop on and were told to wait 15 minutes. When we questioned this we were then told it’s a private bus and go to the man at the red umbrella. That man sent us back to the buses we were denied on. He then saw another bus pull up over the road and sent us to that bus. He also said no it’s private. Back to the umbrella man and he simply said ‘I don’t know. I just sell the tickets.’ Ok. We stood another few minutes and another came and this one let us on! Pity the other older couple also being sent to all the buses, who had given up and just started walking. The guy on this bus somewhat scolded us for not getting proper tickets first (remember, the main shop didn’t do this for us that morning)! They also didn’t have the roof off despite it being a clear sunny day so you couldn’t see clearly nor take photos, and the windows downstairs were scratched and/or blocked. We got off at another stop and didn’t use them again. The only saving grace buying the ticket was the bonus river cruise!

Disappointing - Very disappointing. I know that a lot of the signs in Budapest are currently under renovation but the tour included nothing at all of the Buda side. The audio was by an unenthusiastic, heavily accented guide so hard to understand and gave very little of the depth and vibrancy of Hungarian history. I like to do a bus tour of a new city to get an idea of the overall geography and history before selecting individual sights to see in greater depth. This did not provide that overview.

Just Say No! - Absolutely terrible Big Bus Tour. The narration is completely non- coherent. Poor sound quality coupled with using a Hungarian national with a VERY THICK ACCENT to narrate the “English” choice. It was so bad I constantly found myself looking down at the selector switch because I thought it had switched to another language. I maybe could make out 10% of what was being said. Why they did t have an American or British national narrate is beyond me. The driver drove like he got paid by the mile whizzing in and out of traffic and stopping and going before people could board or get off! We have done several hop on hop off tours throughout the world and by far this was the worst. Do yourself a favor - get a damn skateboard and find one of the hobos off the street to pull you around the city before wasting your money on this joke of a tour.

Disappointing Experience with Promoter at Stop #1 - had a frustrating experience at Big Bus Stop #1 with an older male promoter, around 60-65 years old, who seemed to be representing Big Bus. He was smoking near the bus, which was unpleasant for everyone waiting. When I showed him my online ticket from the Big Bus website, he dismissively said, ‘Not our company; we’re red,’ causing confusion. We ended up waiting over 25 minutes, and I heard other people also complaining about his rude and unhelpful behavior. Many may avoid reporting him due to his age, but I feel this needs attention to prevent future issues. I hope the company addresses this to improve customer service at Stop #1

Waste of time and money. - I have been on many of these sightseeingbusses, but this is far the worst. Bad signs, rude staff having smoking breaks several times during one trip, many delays and had to change bus at stop number 7 each time, but we still had to wait 10-15 minutes. Half of the bus downstairs was covered with posters and it was impossible to take pictures through the window. The sound was delayed and did not fit with the sights. The staff shouted out the stops, while the audiguide was speaking and it was not possible to hear either. The audioguidespoke English with a heavy accent. I bougjt my ticket online and I was suppose to get vouchers and paperticket but never did.

Not worth the money - Booked the 2 day bus tour with boat. Started with boat on day one and was really disappointed due to the noise of passengers no one could hear the commentary . The front window where we sat was steamed up so couldn’t see out it. Then onto bus tour the next day. It was chaos : there doesn’t seem to be any logic in its route - never seen half the city as bus wasn’t following the route. Going round in circles - literally seen New York Cafe 3 times within minutes. Didn’t go past castle - questioned it later to be told it was because of running . However it wasn’t explained on or whilst boarding. Audio didn’t match up with bus route . Audio said we were stopping for 15 minutes so I got up with child to go down stairs only for bus to suddenly move and we nearly fell down stairs. Ended up stuck on stairs until it came to a stop again . Personally I wish I’d given it a miss.
