Highlights
  • Dohany Street Synagogue - The Dohány Great Synagogue is the second largest functioning synagogue in the entire world. The building was built in 1859 by Ludwig Förster in the Moorish style and is unique for its structure and because it includes an organ. In the building complex there is a memorial garden and a cemetery as well. This curiosity has been part of European heritage since 2017. The street next to it was used as the gate to the ghetto during the Second World War. You will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the Jewish community. You will learn how Raul Wallenberg saved the lives of Jews in the Soah period. Today it is the entertainment district all around.
  • Carl Lutz Memorial - This monument consists of two statues and it represents the cruelty of the soah in an artistic way. The monument was erected in 1991.
  • Gozsdu Udvar - The passage consists of numerous restaurants, cafes, bars and a flea market. The market takes place on weekends in the morning. The atmosphere is fantastic, it is a favorite place for visitors. It is an area reserved for pedestrians.
  • Rumbach Street Synagogue - The Rumbach Synagogue is a recently renovated Orthodox synagogue. The interior is beautiful with the torah reading table. The building was erected in 1873 to designs by Otto Wagner.
  • Szimpla Kert - Very popular ruin bar in the Erzsébetváros district, one of the first bars founded which had the aim of keeping the original image of the houses, using second-hand furniture, creating an atmosphere that is reminiscent of a Mediterranean country where plants are integrated into the courtyard. The style of the place is eclectic, a little bohemian.
