Additional Information

Join one of our educated guides with a thorough understanding of history, which will bring the narrative of Hungary’s Jewish past to life for you.

As we explore, you will become acquainted with the largest Jewish community in Eastern Europe today. This includes viewing the three most significant Synagogues from the outside.

Our journey extends over 2000 years of Jewish history with a strong emphasis on the past 150 years. This encompasses the ‘golden age’ of the dawn of the century, the period between the two world wars with a specific emphasis on the incidents of WW II and the resurgence of Jewish life in the 1990s.

In addition to Jewish culture and history, we also bring you closer to the regeneration of the Inner 7th district. Here, we focus on the living standards, prevailing conditions, related challenges, and street art.

A major point of interest on this tour is a visit inside the Rumbach street Synagogue (the admission fee is covered by the tour’s cost).

The Jewish Community and Hungarian History - My wife and I agreed this tour was very informative and educational about the Jewish Heritage in Hungry. The citizens of Hungry and Jewish Community should be quite proud of what they have accomplished considering how many times they were conquered. All of our questions were answered and our final stop was at a Synagogue with some very unique designs. The 1 hr. lecture and 3 hr. walking tour went by very quickly. It provided us a greater understanding of Hungry’s history and how the Jewish Community played such a vital role in its rebuilding/prosperous years. We will never forget the young informative tour-guide. Wish we got her mom’s goulash recipe.

Gabor Gave Us An Unforgettable Tour - Gabor gave us an incredibly informative and riveting narrative of the Jewish experience in Budapest, focusing upon the seventeenth century to the present day. He had a seemingly inexhaustible fund of information, and shared it with great clarity and detail. Gabor was patient, kind, and sensitive to the needs of the group. One of the greatest tour guides it has been my good fortune to experience.

Wonderful Tour with Budapest Explorers! - We began our time in Budapest with the most wonderful Jewish History walking tour with Noémi Csutak from Budapest Explorers. Noémi is extremely knowledgable, enthusiastic and passionate, and she led our nine person tour with tremendous expertise. I was so impressed that I booked Noémi for a four hour private tour for my traveling companion and myself for the following day. I had come to Budapest in search of aspects of my ancestry, as well as wanting to research certain things pertaining to Jewish history in Budapest. I provided Noémi with a list of subjects and she diligently researched them overnight and was able to share plenty of facts on our private tour. In summary, Budapest Explorers is an excellent choice for tourists and travellers wishing to see Budapest with friendly, knowledgeable and exceptionally kind and fun guides. So much more than the holocaust - Barbi provided a comprehensive overview of Jewish history and Hungary - not just the grim parts of more recent times. Really helps provide an understanding of Hungary over hundreds of years. Fabulous and the small group makes it very interactive.

Balazs of Budapest Explorers is a stellar guide. RIveting history. A highlight of our visit to Budapest. - Our Budapest Explorers tour with Balazs Levay was one of the best experiences of our trip to Budapest. He is not only a walking encyclopedia of knowledge, but clearly he loves sharing the history of his city with visitors, and he made us all feel like we were his special guests. The history of the Jews in Budapest is something we all need to know about. I highly recommend this walking tour!
