Well deserved to be on Rough Guide's 15 things not to miss in Budapest! - We drove to Memento Park on a braw Friday morning, quite chilly as it's an open-air site, but it surely was a fantastic experience that didn't disappoint. The park is thought-provoking, offering insight into Hungary's complex history under Soviet rule. Our guide (unfortunately, I didn’t get her name) was wonderful — knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging. She explained the historical context behind the statues, shedding light on how they symbolised propaganda, control, and the Soviet influence on Hungary. What stood out most was how the park frames this period of history with its design. Rather than glorifying the past, it serves as a reminder of the empty promises of communism and the importance of understanding the impact of ideology. Walking among these once imposing now desolate monuments really put history into perspective, and the guide’s explanations made it even more meaningful. If you’re in Budapest, Memento Park is well worth a visit. With the help of our lovely guide, it’s an educational experience that requires visitors reflect on Hungary’s journey through and beyond the Soviet era sensibly.

Fascinating and thought-provoking insight into Hungarian history and society - This was the highlight of my visit to Budapest. Going on a tour was excellent and really helped me understand the emotional, social and political impact of the sculptures and the park. Esther was a great tour guide and it was so moving and though-provoking to have her explain the sculptures, the messages they convey - intended and unintended.

Definitely worth a visit! (Teen approved) - Our visit to Memento Park in Budapest was truly memorable. The park offers a fascinating insight into Hungary's history. The guided tour brought the statues and their stories to life. We appreciated how history has been preserved rather than erased, sparking meaningful conversations about our own country's past. Memento Park was one of the highlights of our trip. Definitely worth a visit!

Informative Tour! - The tour was very informative - my partner and I learned a lot! We would not have understood as much had we walked through the park on our own. Our tour guide was factual and provided details regarding the design of the park, symbolism of pertinent statues, and the history behind it all.

Momento Park: It worth the trip out of the City - I visited Momento Park in Sept 2024 and was taken on a guided tour by Udith, who works at the main office ( please forgive me if I have spelt your name incorrectly). It was an excellent guided tour as she provided lots of historical background to Hungary and its occupation by the Soviets. It was a rainy cold day but that did not deter Udith from taking me from monument to monument to explain the relevance of each one and the hidden message that some have. After the tour I was able to buy some worthwhile souvenirs while enjoying a hot coffee!!. It's easy to get there from the city center via the metro and bus system ( shout out to the bus system, very reliable network). Momento Park is worth the effort.
