Get to know the behind the scenes stories of Norfolk families. - Food was good stories were great. But if u are looking for an intimate dinner in people’s homes this is not it. That didn’t mean it wasn’t a great night but we are talking over 50 people sitting down to dinner altogether - having said that the food was brought out promptly. It was hot and tasty or cold and tasty depending what the dish was. It wasn’t what we were expecting, but we did enjoy our time. Would recommend it to other travellers.

Great food. Entertaining and enjoyable night. . - The food was fantastic. The homes we visited and the locals so friendly and welcoming. All that I could suggest was a bit more local history knowledge at the last two homes! The first was very entertaining. 🤣 Thanks for a fun night out.

A wonderful experience - A brilliant night! A great way to meet other travellers, enjoy amazing food and listen to stories from islanders. A highlight of our stay and recommended to everyone (maybe not young children!) Hosts were warm and welcoming and a pleasure to listen to.

Vegetarian catered for - local food - I enjoyed listening to the personal stories of the locals and appreciated learning some of their personal history and allowing us to have a peek into their lives. We requested vegetarian food and this was catered for without hesitation. Duration was 2 hours yet it flew by as we travelled to three peoples homes who were gracious enough to answer all our questions about their lives on Norfolk - Medicare, to the roaming cows on the streets, and chickens that walked freely- all our questions answered. One was a whaler in his younger years, pne was a volunteer ambulance medic and the last lived on Pitcairn island - all had intriguing and unique stories to share. The dinner table that we sat at for the main was stunning - a slice of Norfolk Island pine big enough to seat 30 people The food was homemade, so don’t expect gourmet restaurant food, but it was made with care and love. Entree was a hearty vegetable soup, main was lentils with mash potato with beans/peas and dessert was a delicious chocolate and coconut slice

A unique Norfolk Is. experience - Was a unique experience to be welcomed into 3 locals homes and have home-cooked meals at each. Really enjoyed hearing each hosts talk on life on Norfolk. A very enjoyable evening.

Better tour options - We didn’t expect to have so many guests. (About 30 in our group-2 buses)It seemed very rushed, and it would have been good if the format, once you arrived, had been better explained. The Hosts were serving 3 sessions that night. So ours started with nibbles and a sherry which was pleasant and plentiful. It felt awkward to sit at the pre-set dinner table knowing it was sort for the next course. The home where the main course was served, had a lovely garden but because of the change in the weather, we were seated on a decked area with cafe blinds and it was draughty. The meals of roast pork was n’t hot, but I understand it’s hard to get 30 hot meals out quickly. The last house the hosts, as all of them, were gracious and happy to share their stories-perhaps a bit too detailed - again it was draughty being outside and the desert, a slice of berry cheesecake was ok but not great. A nice enough evening but I think the both the hosts and guests could have been briefed better. As a visitor I wanted to know things like “how do you manage without basic foodstuffs?/. What about employment? What happens if you get sick? And so on. The hosts did a good job but I think a better description of the evening is warranted. We’ve loved our holiday on NI but wouldn’t do the Progressive Dinner again.

Enlightening - Interesting stories. Would have liked at the third home for the host to relate real experiences rather than just open the floor for questions

For History Lovers - Really the main thing here is to meet the various families of the island and hear about the history. The food is fine but nothing special.

A different evening - We had a pleasant night but I wasn't expecting such a large group. The food was good considering the circumstances and Alison's smoked fish entree (and banter) exceptional. Alison also has the best wine by far and you can take it on to the next venue. I was disappointed that the remainder of the evening was less personal. I think it's overpriced, I could do better at any of the good restaurants where staff were always ready to chat. It is a different island experience and as always Baunti Tours were very well organised. Our driver/Baunti guide for the evening had a wonderful way with words and entertained us enroute with interesting snippets. Thank you very much Rachael, we really enjoyed your company.

A lottery - depends on the home! - Expect anything. Entree course we had a woman who gave us a comedy history of her family, which was fun. Main course the hostess produced her frail 86 year old uncle to talk about whaling, who had obvious memory loss and kept forgetting what he was saying. Sweet guy but very hard going, and not once did she come out to support or help him. Dessert course we were politely blackmailed into buying a local fundraising liqueur, while the hostess regaled us with stories of basically how fabulous she was. With 50+ people in the group there is very little (i.e. none) chance to talk to the hosts about anything, it's a case of "get in, eat, get out." Food was very ordinary. I know this tour has been around for a long time, and in theory it's a great idea, but I think the Norfolkians are doing it by numbers and just grabbing the tourist dollar, which is disappointing. Might be time to revisit the concept and do it better than they are at the moment.
