- Beomeosa Temple - Situated in the mountains of Geumjeongsan in Busan, Beomeosa Temple is a remarkable relic from the ancient Unified Silla era, founded by the monk Uisang. According to legend, a massive rock, approximately 50 feet tall on Geumjeongsan, harbors a spring that perpetually glows with a golden light. Within this spring, golden fish, said to have descended from the heavens on colorful clouds, play and swim. This enchanting scene inspired the temple’s name ‘Beomeosa’, meaning ‘Temple of the Nirvana Fish’. During a period of imminent invasion by Japanese forces, Silla, in its desperation, turned to Monk Uisang and his powerful Hwaeom Sinjung prayers. Miraculously, his spiritual rituals repelled the invaders. In gratitude for this divine intervention, the King of Silla honored Monk Uisang by commissioning the construction of Beomeosa Temple.
- Geumjeongsan Mountain - Located in Busan, Geumjeongsan is the guardian mountain, reaching an impressive height of 801.5 meters at its peak, Godangbong. As Busan’s treasure, the mountain features dramatic rock formations, steep cliffs, and historical landmarks like the ancient Geumjeongsanseong Fortress. From its summit, visitors can enjoy a stunning view where the East and South Seas meet.
Just a short distance from the city center, Geumjeongsan transforms with each season: in spring, it wears a lush green coat reminiscent of a city meadow, and in autumn, it is adorned with a vibrant tapestry of fall colors. The mountain’s playful contours and ever-changing scenery make Geumjeongsan a captivating sight. The 17-km long Geumjeongsanseong Fortress, built in 1703 during King Sukjong’s reign, stands as a silent guardian. Climbing its heights, one is filled with the spirit of history, recalling the times when ancestors courageously defended against foreign invasions.
