- Bupyeong Kkangtong Market - Situated in Jung-gu, Busan, this market stands alongside Gukje Market and Jagalchi Market as one of Busan’s iconic markets. Historically, markets were held in Bupyeong-dong, but after the 1876 Ganghwa Island Treaty, Japanese residents began shopping here, earning it the name ‘Korean-Japanese Market.’ In 1915, it was designated a public market by the Japanese and renamed ‘Bupyeongjeong Market.’ Post-liberation, it became ‘Bupyeong Market,’ known for selling US military supplies, especially canned food, hence the nickname ‘Bupyeong Can Market,’ which persists today.
This market is particularly famous for its food, with bibim glass noodles and tofu pocket casserole being standout dishes.
- Jagalchi Market - The name Jagalchi Market is believed to originate from its location on a gravel field post-Korean War, with ‘cheo’ (gravel field) pronounced as ‘chi’ in the Gyeongsang dialect, thus becoming Jagalchi. Here, you can find a wide variety of fish.
- Gukje Market - The history of Busan International Market began with the trade of goods left by Japanese returning to Japan after liberation and items brought by returning compatriots. Initially called Dottegi Market, it was renamed Jayu Market in 1948 after a building was constructed. The market offers a vast array of Korean traditional snacks, dishes, clothes, shoes, and many imported goods.
- Gamcheon Munhwamaeul Haneul Maru Jeonmangdae - This area features charming pastel-colored houses and maze-like alleys cascading down the mountainside. Enjoy the picturesque village scenery in harmony with nature, and admire various artworks installed throughout the alleys.
