Essentials of Vietnamese cuisine - I took this cooking class with Alicia Down. It started with picking your own vegetables and learning about them and their tole in the Vietnamese diet. Alice is very personable and explained everything about the basics of Vietnamese food and the essential spices and sauces to use. We ended up making wonderful appetisers, mainly meal and a dessert under her guidance and the food we made was very delicious and better than most restaurants I have eaten in. This is a must do while in Vietnam. Thank you Alice.

Bring the Vietnamese cuisine back to Poland! - Exactly what we expected or more! Chéf Alice was so patient and helpful to us. Guided through the MasterChef course despite of the limited time we had, simultaneously preparing 4 dishes and using the ingredients previously collected by us from their own, organic garden. Truly Top (cooking) Class!

A super day - Quynh came to pick us up at the hotel right in time, at 7:30am. Luckily, we were the only people on the tour, so it was like a private tour. A nice clean car was waiting for us. The drive was about 1.5 hours to the farm in Cu Chi area. We caught up on some sleep after asking Quynh some basic questions about Vietnam. At the farm, we were welcomed with some ice cold Shi So tea (of which, there was an endless supply). We then roamed through the farm and plucked some veggies. It was interesting to learn about the various varieties of plants at the farm and how they grew them. It was pretty similar to India, but there were some key variations. Oh, and we fed some giant cat fish! The cooking class was great. Quynh helped us understand the basics of Vietnamese cooking with some easy-to-remember tricks. Like flavour happy family - man was the spice, woman was sweet and the child was little sweet, little spicy :) We cooked 4 dishes including a dessert. My personal favourite was the chicken curry with coconut milk. My 8 year old boy also handled the gas and deep fried some spring rolls. But, Quynh was taking good care of him. Then, we took a trip to the Cu Chi tunnel. I wont talk more about it since I don't want to give spoilers. I will say that it was eye opening and Quynh is a knowledgeable guide. So, that's that! A super day. Thanks to Quynh. Her English is super good.

Making my Vietnamese food dreams come true - Chef Alice picked me up at my hotel with an huge smile and a nice air conditioned van. She explained all the details of our farm tour and we arrived an hour and a half later. The location is a quiet agricultural area with water buffalo and stray dogs. Inside the main building I observed the cashew side of their business and got to try the fresh and delicious nuts. We spent about an hour picking various vegetables and herbs for our cooking class. (I picked my first okra and curry leaves.) Then we returned to the prep area and began our guided sauce making and all together made 4 super dishes. This is a great way to appreciate Vietnamese food and I’m excited to incorporate what I learned in my kitchen.

Exciting day trip - We had a total private tour for the whole day, which made it even more special. The whole day trip was amazing! First, harvesting the food, the cooking class and then the Cu Chi tunnels in the end - such an exciting day. Alice was such a lovely tour guide. All in all would recommend this tour to everyone! We totally loved it

Anywhere but here! - This is not the worst cooking class I've ever been to, but certainly the most disappointing! I corresponded with Chef Tan before the class, as there were many different reviews with different experiences. It was not clear which this one was. I was also suspicious as he claimed to be "the best" on his personal site, so I wondered if the class was good (the best is usually a gimmick, and in this case it is!) So I asked him which of his courses this trip advisor one corresponded with so that I could get more details. He said "Hot tour". I asked him how he made the rice paper -- hopefully not in a microwave. He said no. I also said I was gluten free. Then I got to the class and it was NOT the hot tour (tons of differences). There was no rice paper, and the making your own rice * cracker* without gluten didn't work. We did go pick some things from their garden. We did look at the cows and water buffalo. We also fed goldfish bread (what??). And we cooked a variety of dishes-- deep fried shrimp in a wrapper, pan fried beef noodle veggie salad, chicken in a clay pot, a giant rice cracker plus cashews in some sort of sweet chemical sludge, fried banana a wrapper. I don't eat fried food, and we used around 6+ T of sugar/syrup in our dishes. Part of this is just the cuisine, but there are plenty of other food items that aren't so filled with sugar or are fried. Because Chef Tan provides no details about the menu, I couldn't know that it would be so heavily fried, plus all the sugar. I care about organic items not as part of some gimmick (for him it's purely a selling point), but as an overall healthy lifestyle. When I confronted him about this not being the hot tour and having no rice paper, he said I had signed up for trip advisor and sorry about the rice paper, but wouldn't give me any kind of discount for misleading me ( I asked because I could see that what he really cared about was money-- this is clearly a business, first and foremost). I wanted my money back 100%, but I was being nice and asked for a discount. He said something about how we are all friends and family, bla, bla bla (my friends don't lie to me to make money off me). Overall, if you have 80$ to blow and want to waste an entire day doing something that you can do in other cities in Vietnam for about 20$, then you might like this! They are very organized and it's nice to pick your own food. If you actually care about being healthy and don't want to contribute to an overpriced cooking class with a scammer chef, go elsewhere! Tripadvisor wouldn't let me post our correspondences as proof, so I've decided to file a official claim with the appropriate authorities. That's how much I didn't like this rip-off, money grubbing guy.
