A Warm Welcome to Cabeça dos Tarrafes

As a travel writer and a mother of three, I am always on the lookout for experiences that are both educational and enjoyable for the whole family. Our recent adventure to Cabeça dos Tarrafes for the Rural Tour was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the warmest of welcomes by Aritson and his family, who made us feel right at home.

The tour began with a leisurely walk through the lush green fields, where the kids could run freely and breathe in the fresh air. The scenery was breathtaking, and it was a perfect opportunity to teach my children about the importance of nature and agriculture. Aritson, our guide, spoke excellent English and was more than happy to answer all of our questions, making the experience both informative and engaging.

Up Close with the Animals

One of the highlights of the tour was visiting the goat shed. My children were thrilled to get up close with the goats, and they even had the chance to feed and milk them. It was a hands-on experience that they will never forget. We also encountered pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks, and even some baby goats, which were a delight to watch.

The farm was bustling with life, and it was fascinating to see how the locals live and work. We learned about the agricultural techniques used in the region and the history of the farm, which added depth to our understanding of the local culture. The kids were particularly excited to help herd the goats when they made a cheeky escape, a moment that had us all laughing and bonding with the local community.

A Taste of Cape Verde

No visit to Cabeça dos Tarrafes would be complete without sampling the local cuisine. We were treated to a traditional Cape Verdean breakfast, complete with eggs and fresh watermelon. The flavors were delightful, and it was a wonderful way to introduce my children to new tastes.

We also had the opportunity to visit a family home to see how goat cheese is made, followed by a tasting session at a friend’s bar. Here, we tried the local drink, Ponche, made with grogue, the national liquor of Cape Verde. While it was a bit strong for my taste, it had a lovely smooth finish that was quite enjoyable.

Overall, our trip to Cabeça dos Tarrafes was an unforgettable experience that I would highly recommend to any family looking for an authentic and educational adventure. The combination of hands-on activities, cultural insights, and delicious food made it a perfect day out for all ages.
