• FAI Saline Conti Vecchi - The longest-lived salt pans in Sardinia extend across the 2700 hectares of the Santa Gilla pond: for almost 90 years, man and nature have worked here in perfect synergy thanks to the far-sighted enterprise of the engineer. Conti Vecchi who, at the end of the 1920s, carried out an ambitious project to reclaim the pond by installing a colossal salt pan and thus contributing to the economic and social development of this depressed area on the outskirts of the city. The result was a thriving, virtuous and cutting-edge industrial reality. In 2017, the FAI was entrusted with the valorisation of this cultural and landscape heritage. A story that has now become a story in which to immerse yourself as you walk through the historical environments of the Management, Offices and Chemical Laboratory, restored to their original appearance, as they were in the 1930s.

The Saline Conti Vecchi managed by FAI are an immense naturalistic area and an industrial archeology site within a still productive plant and tell the story of the salt enterprise with period displays, immersive projections and a path between natural tanks, mountains of salt and wildlife. After a short screening that will tell the story of the Saline, you will get on an electric train that will take you inside the salt pans: the guide will tell you in detail about this wonderful and unique place, you will be able to admire the Pink Flamingos and many other species of animals up close that nest in this area.
