- Cahuita National Park - The National Park in Cahuita features a magnificent eight-kilometer hike along beaches that look like they belong in a “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie. Begin your journey at the Kelly Creek station in Cahuita, a small beachfront town, and walk all the way around Punta Cahuita to reach Puerto Vargas beach. In addition to the breathtaking beaches and tropical flora, the park is home to a variety of animals, including furry creatures and reptiles.
As the most easily accessible national park in the Caribbean south of Costa Rica, Cahuita is a favorite for many. It spans 2,732 acres of land and 55,200 marine acres and was established to protect the country’s largest coral reef.
The 600-acre reef hosts around 35 species of coral, over 100 species of fish, as well as mollusks, crustaceans, and sea turtles. The park also features several rivers, providing a habitat for diverse wildlife such as white-faced monkeys, herons, caimans, sloths, snakes, and lizards.
