Pyramids and Grand Egyptian Museum Tour
Pyramids of Giza - After breakfast, your guide will pick you up from your hotel. Today, you will visit a site dating back to around 2600 BC, featuring the Great Pyramid, the only surviving ancient wonder of the world. It consists of approximately 2.5 million blocks weighing over 6 million tons, with some blocks weighing nearly 15 tons. How these massive blocks were moved is a question to explore while visiting the pyramids of Cheops, Khafre, and Menkaure. The Giza plateau offers many unique sights, including the Sphinx, the oldest and largest monument in Egypt, known for its lion’s body and human head. You will then move to a magnificent panoramic view where you can see the three pyramids and the three smaller pyramids of the Queens.
Grand Egyptian Museum - Discover the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), Egypt’s newest and most impressive archaeological collection, showcasing priceless treasures previously housed at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.
Enter the largest archaeological museum in the world, where ancient history meets modern innovation. Be amazed by the Grand Hall and its monumental Statue of Ramses II, then explore the Tutankhamun Galleries, displaying over 5,000 artifacts from the boy king’s tomb, all exhibited together for the first time.
Sakkara, Memphis, and Dahshur
Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - Begin your day by visiting the Zoser Step Pyramid in Sakkara, considered the oldest pyramid ever built for King Djoser with its six rectangular bases. It was constructed as a burial ground during the Old Kingdom, evolving from the standard mastabas for nobles. The step pyramid in Saqqara has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Memphis and Sakkara - The next stop is the ancient city of Memphis, an important administrative and military center. Memphis was a regional hub for commerce, trade, and religion. The ruins of ancient Memphis today offer fragmented evidence of its glorious past. Your guide will share the legendary history of Memphis as recounted by the Greek historian Herodotus.
Pyramids of Dahshur - Afterwards, on your way south, you will make a final stop to visit the Red Pyramid and Bent Pyramid at Dahshur. Finally, relax on the coach ride back to your hotel, where your tour concludes at the starting point.
