Pyramids, Great Sphinx, and the Egyptian Museum
Pyramids of Giza - Begin your day with a delightful breakfast at your hotel, and then embark on an unforgettable journey led by your private tour guide to explore some of Cairo’s most iconic attractions. The Giza Pyramids complex, standing for over 4,000 years, ranks among the world’s oldest monuments. This remarkable site includes three primary pyramids and six smaller pyramids.
Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx, a mysterious and awe-inspiring creation, takes the form of a mythical being with the body of a lion and the head of a man, believed to represent King Khafre and his enduring power and wisdom. This colossal statue stands at a towering height of 73 meters (240 feet) and a length of 19 meters (66 feet). Carved from a single block of limestone, the Sphinx remains shrouded in enigma since its construction during the Old Kingdom (2686 – 2134 BC).
Cairo - Your lunch will be enjoyed at a restaurant offering a view of the pyramids and the Nile River.
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - Next, you’ll visit the Egyptian Museum, a sanctuary of beauty and wonder that boasts the world’s largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts and monuments spanning over 4,000 years of history. Inside the museum’s two-story building, you’ll encounter more than 150,000 artifacts crafted from a wide range of materials, from the most luxurious, such as gold, silver, and gemstones, to the most humble, like wood and stone. Among these treasures, you’ll find statues, and funerary objects, including the famed treasures of King Tutankhamun, the Narmer palette, papyrus scrolls, a plethora of mummies, and countless other priceless relics.
Cairo International Airport - Following your enriching tour, you’ll be transferred to Cairo Airport to catch a flight to Aswan, where you will spend the night.
aswan
Aswan High Dam - Begin your day with a delightful breakfast, and then join your tour guide to explore some of Aswan’s captivating tourist attractions.
The Aswan High Dam, a modern marvel, was constructed between 1960 and 1970 during President Gamal Abdel Nasser’s tenure. This remarkable dam was designed as a collaborative project with the Hydro Project Institute in Moscow to achieve several objectives. It aimed to provide better control over the annual Nile floods, generate hydroelectricity, and increase water storage capacity for irrigation in its vast reservoir, Lake Nasser, and unfortunately, it posed a potential threat to the iconic Abu Simbel and Philae temples.
Unfinished Obelisk - The Unfinished Obelisk is a monumental marvel, created under the reign of Queen Hatshepsut (1508-1458 BC), with the intention of standing at the entrance of the Karnak temple. Known as “Tekhenu,” meaning “to pierce the sky,” it offers insights into the meticulous craftsmanship involved in crafting obelisks from raw stone and the construction techniques of ancient Egypt. This colossal obelisk reached a towering height of 42 meters and weighed an astonishing 1,200 tons. Unfortunately, it sustained a crack during its construction, and it has remained at its original location to this day.
Aswan - Your lunch will be savored at an exceptional restaurant in Aswan.
Temple of Philae - The Philae Temple narrates the ancient Egyptian myth of Osiris, a tale of divine resurrection and triumph over evil. According to the legend, Osiris, the husband of Isis, was slain by his jealous brother Set. However, through the magic of Isis, Osiris was resurrected and became the ruler of the underworld. Subsequently, Set was defeated by Horus, the sky god and son of Osiris and Isis, ushering in an era of peace, prosperity, and justice. The temple was relocated in the 1960s as part of a UNESCO-led rescue mission following the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
After your explorations, you will check into a luxurious 5-star hotel in Aswan for an overnight stay.
Abu Simbel
Abu Simbel Temple Complex - In the early morning hours, you will embark on a journey to visit one of Egypt’s most historically significant archaeological sites. The magnificent Abu Simbel Temple stands as both the final gateway to Egypt and the guardian of its southern border. This awe-inspiring temple was commissioned by the great King Ramses II (1279-1213 BCE) during Egypt’s New Kingdom period (1570-1050 BC) to eternally commemorate his legacy.
Abu Simbel comprises two remarkable temples, with the grander one dedicated to Ramses himself. This colossal temple plays a pivotal role in the annual Sun Festival, occurring on the 22nd of February and October each year. During this extraordinary event, the sun’s rays illuminate the faces of the four seated statues within the temple: Ramses II, Ptah (the God of creation), Amun (the Creator God), and Ra (the Sun God). The smaller temple adjacent to it is a tribute to Ramses’ beloved wife, Queen Nefertari.
Aswan - Following your visit to Abu Simbel, you will return to Aswan for a hearty lunch. Afterward, you’ll catch a flight back to Cairo and be transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay.
