Cairo International Airport (IATA: CAI) can be found in the northeastern side of the city, approximately 15 km away from the commercial region. The airport is composed of three terminals, with Terminal 3, the most extensive one, launched on April 27, 2009.

Terminal 2 went through total refurbishment of its construction and amenities and was shut down in April 2010.

In 2010, a new runway operating parallel to the other runways replaced the intersecting one. Runway 05L/23R measures 3,300m, 05C/23C is about 4,000m long, and the new runway, designated as 05R/23L, is roughly the same length. In addition, a new freight terminal is currently being constructed.
