- Coptic Cairo - The Monastery of St. Simon the Tanner is the largest and features an amphitheater with a seating capacity of 20,000. It is worth visiting if you are interested in seeing something unique in Egypt.
- Mansheya Nasir - Next, you will pass by the Garbage City in Cairo, located in a very local neighborhood known as Manshiyat Naser, or “Garbage City in Cairo.” This slum settlement is situated to the southeast of Cairo. Its residents are affectionately known as “Garbage People” because they have sustained themselves for decades as Cairo’s unofficial sanitation crew.
The Garbage People, mostly Coptic Christians, first migrated to Cairo in the 1930s in search of better opportunities. Being very poor and without a solid financial plan, they survived by living in makeshift housing and recycling the city’s compostable waste by feeding it to their pigs.
Today, Cairo’s Garbage People make a living by going door to door to collect people’s trash for a small fee, which is then brought back to their neighborhoods in Garbage City. There, they sort and recycle everything they can, using it for their own manufacturing.
- City of the Dead (Northern Cemetery) - Note: You will pass through the Garbage City without getting out of the car, as the area is almost entirely filled with garbage and has a very bad smell that can cause diseases. This is why we have created a passing-through trip, as customer safety is our main concern.
Then, you will pass by The City of the Dead, an Islamic necropolis and cemetery below the Mokattam Hills in southeastern Cairo.
