• Egyptian Museum - The Egyptian Museum is the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East and boasts the largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities worldwide. It showcases a vast array of artifacts from the Predynastic Period to the Greco-Roman Era. The building’s architect was chosen through an international competition in 1895, the first of its kind, won by French architect Marcel Dourgnon. The museum was inaugurated in 1902 by Khedive Abbas Helmy II and has become a historic landmark in downtown Cairo, housing some of the world’s most magnificent ancient masterpieces like the mask of Tutankhamen, the only statue of King Khufu, and statues of Djoser, Akhenaten, among others.

Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi was the first to order the construction of a fortress over the Muqattam Hills in (572 AH/1176 AD), but it was completed during the reign of Sultan al-Kamel ibn al-Adel (604 AH/1207 AD), who decided to reside there, making it the official residence of Egypt’s rulers. In the mid-nineteenth century, Khedive Ismail moved the official residence to Abdeen Palace in downtown Cairo.
