• Cairo Citadel - Begin with a hotel pickup by our tour guide and head to the Citadel of Salah El Din in Cairo. Here, you’ll visit the Mohamed Ali Mosque, renowned as one of Cairo’s most beautiful mosques. It’s also known as the Alabaster Mosque due to its outer walls being covered in Alabaster Stone.
• Al-Rifa’i Mosque - Next, visit the prominent Al-Rifa’i Mosque, located opposite the Mosque-Madrassa of Sultan Hassan, which dates back to around 1361. This mosque was designed to complement the older structure and was part of a 19th-century effort by Egypt’s rulers to link themselves with the grandeur of earlier Islamic periods and modernize the city.
• Al-Azhar Mosque - Continue to Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo, also known as the Mosque of the Most Resplendent. Commissioned by Al-Mu’izz li-Din Allah of the Fatimid Caliphate in 970 for the new capital city, its name is believed to honor Fatimah, the daughter of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, who was titled az-Zahrā, meaning the shining or resplendent one. It was the first mosque established in Cairo, a city now nicknamed “the City of a Thousand Minarets.”
• Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan - Then, visit one of Cairo’s largest mosques, the Sultan Hassan Mosque, also known as Madrasa El Sultan Hassan. Founded by Sultan Hassan in 1356 A.D., this massive Mamluk-era mosque and madrassa is located near The Citadel. Its construction began in 757 AH/1356 CE and was completed three years later without any delays. The mosque was notable for its size and innovative architectural features, including schools for all four Sunni schools of thought: Shafi’i, Maliki, Hanafi, and Hanbali.
• Al Emam El Hussein Mosque - Conclude your day with a visit to El Hussein Mosque in Cairo, a revered site believed to be the burial place of the head of the prophet Muhammad’s grandson.
