- National Museum of Egyptian Civilization NEMC - The main Exhibition Hall showcases the four main crafts that shaped Egyptian civilization: pottery, wood, textile, and ornaments. You can see the oldest prosthetic toe in the world, a skeleton dating back 30,000 years, the Kaaba Cover (kiswaa Al kaaba) made in Egypt during President Nasser’s time, and the Mahmal, which was used to carry the cover from Egypt to Saudi Arabia annually in a grand parade. Additionally, you can view the Kaaba key and Clepsydra, an ancient time-measuring device. The royal mummies, moved in a royal parade from the Egyptian Museum to the Civilization Museum, are also on display.
- Cairo Citadel - Visit one of Egypt’s oldest citadels, built by Salah El Din El Ayoby. Here, you will also visit and enter the beautiful Mohamed Ali Mosque, also known as the Alabaster Mosque due to its alabaster stone covering.
- Mosque of Muhammad Ali - The Great Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, or Alabaster Mosque, is located in the Citadel of Cairo. It was commissioned by Muhammad Ali Pasha between 1830 and 1848.
- Hanging Church (El Muallaqa, Sitt Mariam, St Mary) - The Hanging Church is named for its location above a gatehouse of Babylon Fortress in Coptic Cairo (Old Cairo); its nave is suspended over a passage. The church is approached by twenty-nine steps, leading early travelers to dub it “the Staircase Church.” The land surface has risen by about six meters since the Roman period, burying most of the Roman tower and reducing the visual impact of the church’s elevated position. The entrance from the street is through iron gates under a pointed stone arch. The nineteenth-century façade with twin bell towers is seen beyond a narrow courtyard decorated with modern biblical art. Up the steps and through the entrance is another small courtyard leading to the eleventh-century outer porch.
- Synagogue Ben Ezra - The Ben Ezra Synagogue, sometimes referred to as the El-Geniza Synagogue or the Synagogue of the Levantines (al-Shamiyin), is located in Old Cairo, Egypt. According to local folklore, it is situated on the site where baby Moses was found. This synagogue’s geniza, or storeroom, was discovered in the 19th century to contain a treasure of abandoned Hebrew, Aramaic, and Judeo-Arabic secular and sacred manuscripts. Known as the Cairo Geniza, the collection was brought to the University of Cambridge in England by Solomon Schechter. It is now divided among several academic libraries, with the majority kept at the Cambridge University Library.
- Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus - Abu-Sergah & St. Barbara Old Cairo is an iconic religious site that beautifully preserves the essence of ancient Egypt. Located in Old Cairo, this captivating complex stands as a beacon of Coptic Christianity and an embodiment of the country’s fascinating history. Admire the stunning craftsmanship and timeless beauty in the intricate designs, ancient relics, and sacred icons throughout the church and monastery. Whether you are intrigued by architecture, spirituality, or historical landmarks, Abu-Sergah & St. Barbara Old Cairo offers an enriching experience like no other.
