Additional Information

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel to visit Old Cairo, also known as Christian Coptic Cairo. This area is one of the most significant sites visited by the Holy Family, where their spiritual presence is still strongly felt. Although their stay was brief, the Governor of what was then Fustat, angered by the falling idols at Jesus’ approach, sought to kill the Child. The Holy Family took refuge in a cave, over which the Church of Abu Serga (St. Sergious) was later built. This entire area, including the Fort of Babylon, is a pilgrimage destination for both Egyptians and Christians worldwide. You will also visit the Hanging Church and the famous Cave Church of St. Simon in Cairo. There are seven cave churches carved into the nearby Moqattam Mountain, with the Monastery of St. Simon the Tanner being the largest, featuring an amphitheater that seats 20,000 people. At the end of the tour, you will return to your hotel.

Coptic Cairo Review - I went on Abdu's walking tour of Coptic Egypt during my stay in Cairo (Jan 2024). Abdu exceeded my expectations! He was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Egypt and the construction of the various sites we visited. The highlight for me was seeing the cave where Jesus and Mary hid for three months; it felt surreal. I also really enjoyed Abdu's explanation of the similarities and differences between Islam, Christianity and Judaism. It's remarkable to see a synagogue, church and mosque co-existing near each other together peacefully. What an inspiration to society given all the religious unrest in the world.

Wander around Coptic Cairo & its history! - Didn’t know which tour to choose so ended up spending the whole day with Abdu! Very easy to get in contact and book your tour through WhatsApp! My parents and me really enjoyed our time and company! Abdu went all the way to show us around from buying things at the bazar to local restaurants to eat and drink. Learnt a lot about a less famous part of Caïro (Coptic) and got picture perfect photos from the whole tour. Thanks to my personal photographer, Abdu himself! Visited a lot of highlights on my list on this tour. Very friendly and easygoing guy. Would highly recommend!
