Our accommodations at the Barcelo in Giza were elegant, albeit with a touch of nostalgia. The hotel, though slightly dated, offered a comfortable retreat after our explorations. The tour of the Giza Pyramids and the surrounding sites was meticulously planned, each moment a testament to the grandeur of ancient Egypt. Standing before the silent majesty of the Sphinx, I felt a profound connection to the past, a reminder of the spiritual journey that travel can inspire.

Sailing the Nile: A Journey Through Time

The next leg of our journey took us to Aswan, where we met Mohsen, affectionately known as Mossy. His expertise in Egyptology and his genuine care for our well-being made him an unforgettable companion. As we embarked on our Nile cruise, Mossy shared stories of the ancient world, his words painting vivid pictures of the gods and pharaohs who once walked these lands.

The cruise itself was a floating sanctuary, offering comfort and culinary delights as we sailed past the breathtaking landscapes. Each stop along the Nile was a revelation, from the mystical Philae Temple to the awe-inspiring Valley of the Kings. The tombs of the pharaohs, adorned with intricate hieroglyphs, spoke of a civilization that revered the divine in every aspect of life. The highlight, however, was the majestic Abu Simbel, where the colossal statues of Ramses II stood as guardians of history.

Hurghada: A Mixed Blessing

Our journey continued with a drive through the desert to Hurghada, a transition from the timeless sands to the azure waters of the Red Sea. The hotel, though visually appealing, was marred by maintenance issues that detracted from the experience. Despite the challenges, the view of the sea was a balm for the soul, a reminder of nature’s beauty amidst human imperfections.

The beach, though rocky and shallow, offered a serene escape, and the kindness of the staff, particularly Ahmed at the front desk, was a testament to the hospitality that defines Egypt.
