In 1976, UNESCO declared it part of the World Heritage Site Historic Cairo (Islamic Cairo), which was “the new center of the Islamic world, reaching its golden age in the 14th century.”

The museum is partially open, featuring a temporary exhibition on the history and industry of four crafts in Egypt from prehistory to modern history. You’ll also see the oldest leather tanning artifacts in Egypt.
