Air-Conditioned Tour of Koh Ker & Beng Mealea: Mystical Temples Exploration Full Day

Embark on a full-day air-conditioned tour of the mystical temples of Koh Ker and Beng Mealea. Explore these rarely visited sites and enjoy complimentary amenities in the vehicle.

Duration: 9 hours
Cancellation: 24 hours
Highlights
  • Beng Mealea - Travel around 66km away from Siem Reap Center. The temple complex has never been restored and it is a fraction of the size of Angkor Wat’s visitor population.
Take sometime to unwind and rest in the broad, open grounds, surrounding the temple.
Travelers can have a pleasant morning spent wandering around the temple in relative peace and quiet. If you are into photography, this also implies that you can capture some amazing shots if you go.
  • Koh Ker Temple - Koh Ker Lost Archeological Site can be found 120 kilometers northeast of Siem Reap.
Koh Ker most likely served as Jayavarman IV’s state temple when it was the capital of the whole empire (928–944 AD).

The Khmer monarch, Jayavarman IV, moved the capital to ChokGargyar, which has since become Koh Ker.

The pleasant trip from Siem Reap to Koh Ker takes around two hours and passes through good roads. Along the route, you will see glimpses of cashew and banana plantations, as well as impressive rice fields and local villages.

Trip was otherworldly - Visited Beng Mealea Temple to start the trip. Beautiful temple with rich history. Next was Koh Ker temple, who would have thought that there is a pyramid in Asia! Also we had a delicious lunch there. Late afternoon we went to small but cute temples namely Prasat Linga 1 and Neang Khmao. To finish the day, Crickets and silkworms to go. Again amazing tour with Cheng Ry our tour guide and Chivon our driver.

An amazing tour with an amazing tour guide! - I had a phenomenal experience with the tour. The best part about it was our tour guide Mr. Bunny Tha. Bunny was extremely friendly and pleasant throughout the trip, and volunteered to take some great pictures of my friend and I at the various temples. He was also full of very useful information about all the temples and about things to do in Cambodia as well. We asked him about things we could do at Sihanoukville and Koh Rong (our next destination) as well. He made the entire tour so much better and added a lot of value to what was already a great trip. The vehicle was also spacious and very comfortable. An ice box with water bottles was included as part of the trip. We could ask the driver to stop for snacks or bathroom breaks at any time. We saw Beng mealea, Koh Ker (which has 3 smaller temples inside), and a few other smaller temples nearby. Overall I would greatly recommend this tour to anyone travelling to Cambodia. The temples we saw are far more natural and mixed with the jungle than the ones in Angkor Wat or Angkor Thom. Most tourists skip these two since they are somewhat far from Siem Reap, but with the services like this tour I think there's no excuse not to give these two temples a visit. I would also recommend that tourists request for Mr. Bunny Tha to be their tour guide if possible. He has a fascinating history himself which he very kindly shared with us during the drive there, and was overall a perfect tour guide.

Go and see Koh Kernand Beng Mealea :) - Temples were beautiful and it’s definetely worth to pay them a visit. I was going to be a part of the gropu, but lucky for me, nobody else showed up so I ended up having a private tour after all. The guide, Dara Try, was wery kind, gladly sharing all the information and taking pictures of me, as I was travelling solo. Overall I can recommend this activity if you would like to stay around Siem Reap for a little longer, great follow-up to a must see Angkor visit.

Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider Experience - Escape the tick-box tourists at Angkor Wat and venture further afield to the ruined temple of Beng Mealea slowly being consumed by the forest. Bigger than the Ta Phrom temple near Angkor Wat but no crowds. Then on to the stunning Koh Ker complex complete with the seven tier pyramid. No need to pay for a guide as the walkways are self explanatory. Only down side is the trip is expensive as in addition to the tour price you need to buy Angkor Wat passes to go to Beng Mealea (NOT included in cost) and further tickets for Koh Ker. Also the driver spoke minimal English so communication difficult. They also take you to a restaurant for lunch which is pricey for poor quality. Just buy drinks!! Overall - sights and temples stunning. Total cost including tickets high. Don't pay for a guide. Don't buy the food.
