It is the largest temple outside the main Angkor complex, with some areas remarkably intact and others in ruins, with tree roots enveloping many walls and doorways. The eerie atmosphere here provides a stark but welcome contrast to the more frequented temples near Angkor Wat. Boeng Mealea shares many features with Angkor Wat, including three encircling galleries, four gates and entrances, and a pair of interior libraries, but differs with only one central tower instead of Angkor Wat’s famous five towers.
