Highlights
  • Preah Vihear Temple - Your tour begins with a rendezvous with your guide and chauffeur in the hotel lobby at 8 am. Proceed to Preah Vihear Temple, a venerable Hindu sanctuary erected during the Khmer Empire’s zenith, perched on a 525-meter high cliff on a mountain in the Preah Vihear province of Cambodia. After a protracted contention over dominion with Thailand, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) decreed in 1962 that the temple belongs to Cambodia. Offering expansive vistas over the surrounding terrain, Prasat Preah Vihear boasts the most dramatic location among all the temples constructed throughout the Khmer Empire’s six-hundred-year history. As an integral part of the empire’s religious framework, it received continuous enhancements and contributions from various monarchs, reflecting a fusion of different architectural styles. Distinct from other Khmer temples, Preah Vihear is designed on an elongated north-south trajectory, deviating from the typical eastward-oriented rectangular blueprint. On July 7, 2008, Preah Vihear was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Additional Information

It’s worth setting your alarm and leave early. Situated atop a 52 meter high cliff in the Dongrek Mountains forming the natural border between Cambodia and Thailand is Preah Vihear temple, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on July 7th, 2008. Subject to controversial ownership issues over time this temple officially belongs to Cambodia. Its location is 150km north of Siem Reap and it will take approximately 3 hours to get there. You will drive through picturesque countryside which becomes less and less populated the further north you go. This temple is a unique architectural complex of series of sanctuaries linked by a system of pavements and staircases on 800 meter long axis. It is an outstanding masterpiece of Khmer architecture and well preserved mainly due to its remote location.

Ruined Temple Preh Vihear trip - It was a memorable trip with Chan, our tour guide, to Preh Vihear temple ruins. We got extensive experience from this trip by being proud of Cambodian having this temple accepted as the World heritage. Thank you Chan and driver Vatanak for your safe and comfortable drive.
