Relaxing way to view the colleges - We had a few hours to spare in Cambridge before a wedding so opted to be a proper tourist. The tour guide was engaging with historical information about the colleges and added in anecdotal stories for fun. It was a little cold so the blankets weee very welcome. You can pay much less & have a go at pointing yourself but having seen the trouble others were having with it, I’d definitely recommend the tour.

Excellent experience along the River Cam - This is a must-do when visiting Cambridge and the only way to see the backs of the colleges along the River Cam. Simply a beautiful route (not at least in autumn!) and with lots of interesting history and stories told along the way. My chauffeur Alex was a skilled punter and a great storyteller. I would recommend to do an early-morning tour to avoid the crowds later in the day.

The way to see Cambridge. - Our first time in Cambridge. You can’t walk all the way along the water backing onto the colleges as privately owned. Our guide was Jack and we had a lovely 45 mins trip today. If it’s a quiet time of day, always worth asking for a deal and a few £££ off. We paid £50 for the 2 of us.

Fantastic and educational trip - The principle is that you rent a bench (for 2 or 3 people) in a shared boat. The trip takes 45 minutes and you leave and arrive at the same pick-up point. Our Guide (Alex?) was an excellent Guide. He told a lot, had fun anecdotes and humor. A fun way to discover more about Cambridge and especially its universities, life and its (famous) residents. And on the way I bought a Pimm’s at a floating bar. And all on a sunny Friday in September. Super!

Definitely one of the best ways to see Cambridge - Had a great time doing this. We were very lucky with the weather which no doubt helped with our enjoyment. Something I always fancied doing and the staff at Scudamore's were great. Clearly enjoy their work and very knowledgeable. Also very patient given the number of self hire punts steered by idiots....

4 out of 5 stars… - I took a large group of adults to Cambridge over the summer and wanted to give them the opportunity to go punting (with a guide/ someone to punt). Given the size of the party, the only company that had availability was Scudamore’s. It was relatively easy to book over the phone but when we arrived and I spoke to staff at the ticket desk, there was a little confusion as to our booking. Nevertheless, that was handled quickly. As we had arrived about 45 minutes ahead of our scheduled booking, we waited on the public footpath along the water. As instructed, a little while before the booking, I went to the area in which we board the boats/punts. This is the point at which I had to hold my tongue and just observe the lack of organisation, the staff’s inability to keep to schedule or manage customers appropriately. We boarded our boats 15-20 minutes after our scheduled booking. Customers were not boarded in order and we may as well have not made a booking since our time slot was not adhered to. Many people were grumbling. I will write in to the company about this experience. It would be best if there was someone dedicated to managing customers and the order in which people board boats instead of having a number of staff confusing each other or sitting around seemingly doing nothing… Once on the boats however, everything went smoothly. The guides were very personable and knowledgeable. I know that my group enjoyed this experience and got to learn a little about the university, the city and English history. Overall, I recommend punting as an activity, especially in Cambridge. Would I recommend Scudamore’s specifically? Perhaps, but likely not for large group bookings and not to people who I know like a schedule and to stick to a given time slot…

Rude station manager - The sales staff are so pushy on the street. We had 6 people and a small Child on our boat. (Self hire). I didn't realise we had too many. The station manager came running down the river and bellowed at us in front of a packed quayside. She was really rude and humiliating. Just no need.
