Highlights
  • Schooner Appledore II Windjammer Cruise - If you always wanted to sail your own wooden ship, this is your chance. The crew welcomes your participation - offer to help raise the sails and take a turn at the wheel. The Appledore II is a hard working, seaworthy schooner. She has sailed around the world, docking at many harbors along the way. Twice a year, she still sails the Eastern seaboard between her two home ports of Camden, Maine and Key West, Florida. Ask your crew about her history, some have made this bi-annual 2,000 mile sailing trip.

Our day sail on the Appledore II schooner departs from Bayview Landing, taking you out of Camden Harbor. Camden is often called the “jewel of the Maine coast” which becomes clear as you sail past the impressive lighthouse, Curtis Island Light, dating from 1836 and into Penobscot Bay. Considered to be one of the top cruising bays in the world, Penobscot Bay will amaze you with its uninhabited islands, wildlife and views of Camden Hills and other coastal mountains dropping off into the sea.

During your Camden boat tour, look along the shore for Mount Battie, historic inns, and elegant summer mansions of the rich and famous with their million dollar yachts. Watch lobstermen hauling in their traps. On a typical day, you may see porpoises playing in the water, ospreys and eagles hunting for fish and even the occasional whale. Watch for seals sunning themselves on rocks and cute guillernots, cousins to puffins, with their bright red feet, wobbling as they walk along the rocky shoreline.

Quench your thirst with cocktails, beer, wine and soft drinks, all available for purchase during your sailing cruise.

As Camden Harbor comes back into view, relax and feel the wind sweep through your hair as your memorable sailing ship cruise draws to a close.

A beautiful morning cruise - We greatly enjoyed our short cruise on the Appeldore II. The scenery was lovely, and it was fascinating to watch the crew at work. They were also very pleasant to chat with when they were less busy. The capitan had many interesting stories to tell as we pulled out of the harbor and into the bay.

Relaxing tour - We had a lovely time with Pablo, Zach, and Elliott who were awesome crew! We heard stories and historical facts about the Camden area, got to help with some of the sailing tasks, and relaxed with a nice glass of rose’ in the late afternoon. Perfect activity for couples, family, or solo travelers! Thanks for a great time. Well worth the money.

Great day trip on the water! - Enjoyed the trip on a fairly hot day but being out on the ocean was a nice way to cool down for a couple hours. The crew are all friendly and seem to enjoy answering questions. They also ask for volunteers to help hoist the sails which was fun for my husband.

A great afternoon on the water and a terrific taste of Camden... - Weather was spectacular; wind picked up once o0ut on the water and provided a terrific experience. Nick & crew were accommodating and friendly...that they managed both the boat's operations AND bar service during the sail was above and beyond... :)

Great afternoon on the water - Well organized and very enjoyable 2-hour sailing out of Camden on the Schooner Appledore. The sky was sunny, the water was calm, the winds were brisk, and the scenery was spectacular. No better way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Camden than on a classic sailing ship.

Fog Happens - It was a very foggy day. Trios prior to ours had been canceled and refunded. All other charters cancelled. Our captain sailed anyway. We could barely see our hands in front of our faces. I understand weather happens. But he made a bad decision
