Cave di Cusa - In the expansive Selinunte Archaeological Park, seven unique areas each hold remnants of the ancient city’s grandeur. About thirteen kilometers northwest of the park lies the Cave di Cusa archaeological site. These quarries provided an endless supply of raw materials crucial for building Selinunte, including its temples. They are among the most renowned ancient quarries globally, offering a glimpse into the past. The quarries were abruptly abandoned during the war against the Carthaginians, who, allied with the Elymians of Segesta and Erice, unexpectedly destroyed Selinunte. This abandonment left massive, partially-excavated stones intended for temples, showcasing the lengthy and intricate extraction process.

Parco Archeologico Selinunte - Selinunte stands out as one of Sicily’s most captivating and renowned archaeological sites. Located on the western coast between Mazara del Vallo and Sciacca, it exemplifies Greek civilization in Sicily. The park, the largest and most impressive in Europe, spans 270 hectares and features numerous temples, sanctuaries, altars, and more. As you explore this ancient history, you can enjoy a refreshing Sicilian granita made from seasonal fruit.
The site is divided into seven areas along a well-marked route. While the area is walkable, it is quite extensive. Inside, you can rent electric cars from private vendors or purchase a train tour ticket for about 6 euros. To avoid long waits, we recommend buying tickets with shuttle service included online.
