A nice day away from the hustle and bustle of Saigon - Phil was our tour guide for the trip to the floating market and Mekong Delta. He was punctual, good English speaker, funny and very knowledgeable about Vietnamese culture. We started at 5:00 am from the hotel, we arrived at about 07:30 to the floating market. It was not as busy as we were imagining (maybe because they start usually very early), but it was an enjoyable experience. Later we went to Mekong Delta (My Tho) where we took a first boat to an island where they have special honey, then took a smaller boat in the canal, before having some tropical fruits while listening to traditional music. You can also there buy some local chocolate. The last stop was a sightseeing tour with a tuk-tuk between Coco and Banana fields. There we stopped to visit a Coco factory and had a Vietnamese lunch (it was okay but that depends on the taste). In general the day trip was great. We had nice time with Phil. And I highly recommend him as a tour guide.

Mekong Delta personalised journey - I had to cram in the places I wanted to visit into 1 day as that was all I had. Đạt my guide was wonderful as he originally had a plan but listened to what I wanted to do and adjusted the day to suit my needs as I booked a private tour. I had mentioned I didn’t want to visit shopping places etc but was more interested in Mekong Delta, boat trip, local people and pagodas. He and the driver adjusted the entire journey to suit what I wanted with a friendly smile. He allowed me to wander alone to take plenty of photos and videos without being rushed. They also allowed me to be dropped off at the airport at the end of the tour to catch my flight instead of returning to the city. We talked a lot about Vietnamese culture, people and traditions which is more what I am interested in so I learned a lot that I didn’t previously know. Thank you Đạt and the driver whose name I didn’t get. Thank you for listening and being so flexible and making my Mekong Delta dreams come true.

A great day tour of the Delta - We paid for a private tour for two, just me and my 17-year-old son. Our guide Beo picked us up at 5am to begin the 2+ hour drive into the Mekong Delta. Along the way, we were encouraged to rest/sleep, but Beo also was very happy to answer questions and throw out tidbits of information about what we were passing by. We arrived at Can Tho and parked where we could stroll through the town's open-air market, still plenty early to see the sights of small-town life on the Delta--fresh fish, shrimp, and other seafood wriggling in their bins, beautiful local produce, etc. We had a quick breakfast of bún bò Huế and cà phê before heading out to a privately rented motor boat. The motor boat took us about 20 min upriver to the Cái Răng floating market to see how the wholesalers live and trade, stopping aboard a pineapple boat for a closer look and a sample of fresh fruit. We then continued further upriver and climbed ashore at a dock that bicycles at the ready for us. We biked about 20 minutes to an isolated temple where we got to see a sprawling ancient banyan tree. After a short rest and a beverage, we biked back to the dock where we were ferried across the river to the waiting car for the drive to Mỹ Tho. In Mỹ Tho, we went straight to the marina and again got on a private motor boat which took us past several islands before stopping at Coconut Island. We got a nice walking tour of the island and ended at a candy factory where workers hand-make some seriously delicious stuff. This part did feel a little tourist-trap-y as it was a bit of a "souvenir market" vibe, but it was not aggressively so. After that we walked back to the boat to return to the marina. Our tour was scheduled to end at that point, but we requested a stop at the Vĩnh Tràng Temple which was along the way home. We took a brief self-guided walking tour of the grounds and monuments there before getting into the car for the final 2 hour drive back to HCMC. Beo was a very friendly driver with very good English and was also kind enough to give us some recommendations and advice on things to do and things to watch out for within the city. Overall I highly recommend this tour. It is a bit formulaic, but I think that is just what there is out here. You do get to see some real, authentic snippets of small town life in the Delta.
