This tour provides an opportunity to enjoy Moraine Lake beyond the typical daytime bustle, in a serene, immersive, and truly distinctive setting. From wildlife encounters and sunset photography to exploring the expansive night sky, this evening adventure is crafted for those eager to discover a different aspect of the Rockies.
- Bow Valley Parkway - The journey begins with a picturesque drive along the Bow Valley Parkway, a key wildlife corridor where elk, deer, or even bears may be spotted as they appear during the cooler evening hours.
- Morant’s Curve - En route, there will be a stop at Morant’s Curve, a renowned photography location where the winding railway meets the majestic peaks—an ideal moment to capture the golden light before sunset.
- Moraine Lake - Upon reaching Moraine Lake, there will be time to admire the shifting colors as the sun sets behind the Valley of the Ten Peaks. A brief guided walk along the lakeshore will allow for a full appreciation of the area’s tranquility at this time of day, when most daytime visitors have departed. Following the walk, the group will head up to the rockpile, the prime spot for watching the sunset. Here, participants can unwind with a hot drink, savor the peaceful ambiance, and observe as the lake changes from vibrant blue to deep twilight shades.
As night descends, attention will turn to the night sky. With minimal light pollution, this is one of the premier locations in Banff National Park for stargazing. Telescopes and binoculars will be used to closely observe distant planets, constellations, and, if conditions permit, the northern lights. Whether a novice stargazer or an astronomy aficionado, the vast number of visible stars will create a lasting impression.
