Upon arrival, disembark the ferry, inhale the aromatic scents of pine and eucalyptus, and set off to explore on your own. Choose a hiking trail — the island is crisscrossed with well-marked paths — and wander through dense forests for a botanical adventure. Alternatively, take a leisurely walk to the Batéguier pond to observe migratory birds, or visit Point de la Convention to admire the unique plant species native to Ile Sainte-Marguerite.
A visit to the island wouldn’t be complete without exploring Fort Royal, a former prison fortress constructed by Spanish invaders in the 17th century. This is where the infamous ‘Man in the Iron Mask’ was reportedly held captive. Today, the fortress serves as a maritime museum, showcasing a rich collection of archaeological treasures, including 1st-century murals, artifacts from a 10th-century Saracen shipwreck, and Roman-era ceramics.
Another attraction is the Méditerranoscope marine research center, dedicated to preserving the diverse marine life around the Lérins Islands. If hunger strikes, choose from two restaurants and two sandwich kiosks, or bring along a picnic!
At 2:30 pm, board the cruise to the Corniche d’Or.
This narrated cruise offers the chance to discover a stunning natural setting where the red cliffs of the Esterel Massif meet the deep blue sea.
