Discovering the Charm of Comillas

Our journey began in the picturesque town of Comillas, a place that seemed to leap straight out of a storybook. This modernist building, with its vibrant ceramic tiles and oriental flair, was a delightful introduction to the genius of Antoni Gaudí. Next, we ventured to San Vicente de la Barquera, a charming fishing village that offered a glimpse into Cantabria’s maritime heritage. The kids were thrilled to explore the castle and the Church of Santa María de los Ángeles, both of which stand as proud testaments to the village’s rich history. The panoramic views from the castle were breathtaking, and we spent a peaceful moment soaking in the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

The highlight for the children was undoubtedly the chance to watch the local fishermen at work. The Colegiata de Santillana del Mar, with its stunning Romanesque architecture, was a particular highlight, and the kids were eager to learn about its history and significance.

While we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Santillana del Mar, we all agreed that two hours was not nearly enough to fully appreciate all that this charming village has to offer. We made a mental note to return for a longer visit in the future, as there were so many more sights to see and experiences to enjoy. Despite the time constraints, our visit to Santillana del Mar was a fitting end to a wonderful day of exploration and discovery along the Cantabrian coast.
