8 am: The tour begins.
9 am: Arrive at Mount Angel Eye. If the weather permits, we’ll drive or walk to the valley and hike up to the eye of the mountain, also known as Núi Thủng, which features a 50m diameter hole 50m above the ground. This mountain is situated in the heart of the valley within the Thang Hen Lake complex of the Non Nước Cao Bằng UNESCO Global Geopark, known for its charming landscape with vast grasslands (in the dry season) and green lakes (in the rainy season).
Trung Khanh - At 11 am, we drive to Trung Khanh for lunch. Afterward, we drive through Phong Nam Valley and local villages, enjoying the serene countryside, farmers working in the fields, grazing buffalo herds, and endless limestone mountains. We then head to Ngoc Con and hike to a viewpoint. This stunning valley features impressive mountains, expansive rice fields, picturesque minority villages, and a calm, beautiful river.
Trung Khanh - Around 4:30 pm, we visit Truc Lam Buddhist Temple on Phia Nham mountain for a panoramic view of the valley, Ban Gioc waterfall, and the Chinese border.
At 5 pm, we head to a nearby homestay to check in, have dinner, and stay overnight.
Nguom Ngao cave - Ban Gioc waterfall - traditional craft villages
Nguom Ngao Cave - After breakfast, we drive to Nguom Ngao Cave, also known as Tiger Cave in the Tay ethnic language. Inside, you’ll be amazed by the uniquely shaped stalactites. The cave features multiple limestone chambers, floors, stairs, and corridors of various sizes, along with stalactites and stalagmites in diverse shapes such as a coral reef, a ship, a waterfall, an overturned lotus flower, and a terraced field, giving it a magnificent and fantastic beauty.
Ban Gioc Waterfall - Detian Falls - Around 10 am, we head to Ban Gioc waterfall, the 4th largest transnational waterfall in the world, shared by Vietnam and China. Upon arrival, we’ll take a raft to fully experience the majesty and beauty of nature.
Quang Uyen - We have lunch in Trung Khanh, then head to Phuc Sen forging village, where local craftsmen still work manually, relying on long-term experience to choose raw materials and forge steel to create high-quality products like knives, scissors, hoes, and sickles. The village is filled with the sounds of workers beating and hammering steel using traditional techniques and recycled materials.
Quang Uyen - Next, we visit Dia Tren paper village, where 65 households practice traditional papermaking, a craft preserved for many generations by the Nung An ethnic group. If we’re lucky, we can witness the process of producing paper from the bark of May Sla (local language) and hear the story behind it. You can also buy souvenirs like fans, notebooks, or sheets of paper used for drawing or calligraphy.
Quang Uyen - Finally, we visit Phia Thap, where the Nung An people produce incense sticks from natural materials. Incense plays an important role in Vietnamese daily life. On sunny days, you can see incense drying on the village roads.
We then head to Cao Bang City, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel. The tour concludes with a farewell.
